Title: Application
1Advanced Tools for Distributed and Parallel
Systems (ATDAPS)
- ATDAPS is a powerful, PC-based, modeling and
simulation tool suite for design and performance
evaluation of distributed and parallel computer
and network architectures - ATDAPS simulates real time network traffic at
the packet level and computes key performance
metrics, such as Latency, Throughput and
Resource Utilization - ATDAPS allows an analyst to rapidly evaluate
alternative architecture designs, such as
Distributed vs. Centralized Processing,
Distributed vs. Centralized Data, Number and
Capacity of Network Resources, etc.
Network Architecture View Organizes Processors as
separately linked blocks based on the types of
processors and the types of links between
processors
Application View Partitions Processing Functions
as separately linked blocks based on the average
number of instructions per function and the
average size of data transferred between functions

2Advanced Tools for Distributed Parallel Systems
(ATDAPS)
ATDAPS Three Tools can be Run in Sequence
- Partitioning Tool User defines a
parallel/distributed system architecture and its
environment based on system requirements (e.g.,
number of processors, processor characteristics,
link characteristics). -
- Mapping Tool automatically maps the application
Processing Functions to the Processors using
performance-based optimization criteria (e.g.,
application size, execution speed, processor
load, data transfer rate) - Assessment Tool (VHDL Simulator) simulates
execution of the partitioned and mapped
application Processing Functions. Predicts system
performance in terms of key parameters (e.g.,
latency, throughput, resource utilization).
- ATDAPS H/W-S/W Configuration
- PC-based under Windows O/S written in C and
VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Design Language).
