    the Universitys teaching

  • Catalogues must be current and accurate
  • Catalogues must support and enhance University
    processes
  • There should be a single place to find course
    information
  • Data are entered only once
  • Projects must be joined up
  • Information for Online Enrolment, Portal and
    Timetable MUST be correct and consistent
  • We must hold an archive of details of what we
    teach
  • LT management information must be readily
    available

  • Revision of ModCat to provide more information
    and detail
  • New improved layout
  • Enhanced field structure coded information on
    teaching methods for integration into other
    systems
  • Some open fields for update without unlocking
    (but there are time windows!)
  • More quality information e.g. on electives
  • More intelligent handling pre-requisites, for
    instance
  • Information for exam scheduling and
    administration
  • Improved printed reports and better information
    on the web
  • New layout and content for Module Proposal Form
  • Preferencing system for online enrolment being
    trialled by School of History

  • Much improved printed output from ModCat
    (supporting Quality processes)
  • Existing Banner / OLE reports will still work
  • Management reports on modules and statistics to
    follow soon
  • Module review reports (hopefully including
    statistics) to follow in 2006-7
  • ODBC from ModCat
  • Does anyone use this now?
  • It will only capture old fields, not new
  • Is there any continuing demand?
  • What Reports do you need? (Feedback to
    UPCProject_at_leeds.ac.uk)
  • Standard printout of key information for use in
    School Handbooks

  • What Next? During 2006 and into 2006-7
  • Matching enhancements to ProgCat(less needs to
    be done)
  • ModCat and ProgCat linked more closely to
    business processes
  • Track changes feature in ModCat and ProgCat
  • Printed reports with changes highlighted
  • Better treatment of module reading lists
  • Course information presented for student cohorts
    by year of study
  • UPC linked more tightly into Banner and the
    Portal
  • Module financial information (for APPO, HESA and
    Costing/fEC)
  • Enforce programme rules or report violations
    at enrolment and classification
  • Assessment deadlines could be published to in
    students calendars

  • Updating ModCat entries
  • The version of ModCat live on 19th April is a
    transitional form it includes old free text
    and new field-based entries for ease of transfer
    and updating
  • When all entries have been transferred a new
    version with only the new fields will be released
  • New and changed modules must use new form and
    complete all mandatory fields from 19th April
    2006
  • Existing entries can be updated by Schools or
    Faculties as soon as they wish
  • A deadline for phasing out of the old free text
    fields will be set probably mid 2007 central
    support is being sought to transfer entries
  • Exam Admin information must be entered by October
    2006 a final date will be announced
  • Some fields (e.g. rationale) are optional
    initially but may become mandatory later
  • Note there are time windows on some open fields
    this is to avoid disrupting OLE and other
    processes
