  • There are no relevant problems with the use of
    the alcolock device.
  • The alcolock does not interfere with other bus
devices or other duties, but bus drivers
    considered the alcolock time-consuming.
  • Long warming-up was frequently reported.
  • Most bus drivers considered that using alcolocks
contributes to traffic safety and that all buses
in Spain should have an alcolock installed.
  • Bus drivers thought that alcolocks were good for
the companys image, and that alcolocks improved
the companys standard of quality. However, their
opinion that alcolocks were good for their image
as bus drivers decreased after one year of their
    use.
  • No bus drivers intended to change their drinking
habits because they drove a bus with an alcolock
    installed.

  • Only 18 of those interviewed had previously
heard about alcolocks, even though a leaflet had
been distributed among the bus passengers
    explaining the alcolock project.
  • Most passengers (gt 90) thought the installation
of alcolocks in buses to be a good idea.
  • In addition, most passengers believed alcolocks
  • were good for the companys image,
  • improved the companys standard of quality
  • and the image of the bus drivers themselves,
  • as well as improving road safety.
  • In general, the installation of alcolocks in
buses was not related to a possible problem of
    the driver with alcohol.
  • Although passengers supported the installation of
alcolock, they did not express a clear demand for
the installation of the alcolock devices in buses

  • Company owners were in favour of the alcolock
device. However, after the end of the trial
period they considered that the economic cost was
too high to be supported by the bus company.
  • Much more political support is needed at high
    level.
  • Appropriate programmes should be established
regarding how to manage failed alcolock tests.

12
ALCOLOCK TRIAL IN SPAIN 10/10
  • HOW TO MANAGE FAILED TEST
  • The issue of a failed alcolock test and the lost
    of the work possition
  • Legal issues regarding data proteccion (test
