New NVQ Structure

Level 1 Hairdressing and Barbering

• The Hairdressing and Barbering Level 1 NVQ/SVQ
  consists of 6 units, 4 mandatory units plus 2
  optional units to achieve the full NVQ/SVQ
• Mandatory Units
• Unit G20 Make sure your own actions reduce risks
  to health safety
• Unit G3 Contribute to the development of
  effective working relationships
• Unit GH1 Shampoo and condition hair
• Unit GH3 Prepare for hair services and maintain
  work areas

Level 1 Hairdressing and Barbering

• Plus 2 of the following Optional Units
• Unit G2 Assist with salon reception duties
• Unit GH2 Blow dry hair
• Unit GH4 Assist with hair colouring services
• Unit GH5 Assist with perming hair services
• Unit GH6 Plait and twist hair using basic
  techniques
• Unit GH7 Remove hair extensions
• Unit GB1 Assist with shaving services

• The Hairdressing Level 2 NVQ/SVQ consists of 9
  units, 8 mandatory units plus 1 optional units to
  achieve the full NVQ/SVQ

  yourself and your organisation
• Unit G7 Advise and consult with clients

• Unit GH12 Cut hair using basic techniques

  NVQ/SVQ consists of 10 units, 9 mandatory units
  plus 1 optional units to achieve the full NVQ/SVQ

• Plus 5 of the following Optional Units, only 1 of
  which may be chosen from option 2. All 5 optional
  units can be chosen from option group 1 if
  desired.

• Unit GH19 Creatively style and dress hair
• Unit GH20 Creatively dress long hair
