Strategy
  • Plan of Action
  • Shows wings strategy

  • Wings due to Region by January

4
Strategy
  • How Wing Monitors
  • Primary way wing commanders monitor AE is through
quarterly reports. In Ohio, however, it is an
    on-going activity.
  • stories, pictures, news clippings show the AE
Program is working. The more sent in, the better
    we look
  • Shows what activities carry out Plan of Action
  • New model rocketry program

5
Strategy
  • Wing and Region Conferences
  • The Wing DAE sets this up for Wing and Region
  • often as part of the senior or cadet conferences
  • often assists Region in their AE conferences
  • Consists of
  • speakers
  • workshops
  • field trips

6

  • Something Different for Cadet Conference
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • Your friend, the Wing Director of Aerospace
Education, has asked you to help him out. He
tells you that the annual Wing Conference is just
a couple months away and he wants to do something
a little different for the cadets.

14
Internal AE Case Studyoverhead 2 of 3
  • Something Different for Cadet Conference
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • In previous years Aerospace Education has
traditionally sponsored both an essay contest and
a model airplane contest where squadrons submit
their best models and speakers. The top three
squadrons in each category receive a trophy, and
the cadet responsible for the writing of the
winning essay also receives an individual award,
    such as a certificate.

  • Something Different for Cadet Conference
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • The Wing DAE tells you that interest in these
contests has dropped off a little in recent
years, and he really wants to jump start the
contest. He says that the wing commander has
authorized the traditional budget for trophies
and certificates, but that is not the problem. He
wants some fresh ideas for an AE contest at the
wing conference which (1) will not cost the
individual cadets and squadrons a lot of money,
    (2) will be educational, (3) will be fun not only
to take part in, but also for conference
attendees, (4) will not be too hard to
administer, and (5) will not be too
    time-consuming for potential judges.
  • What are your suggestions?
  • questions and answers on following overheads

  • Can the contest be made better?
  • For the purpose of this exercise, they can be.
Interest in the existing contest has dropped off
in recent years. It could also be inferred that
the cadets are not learning as much as they
    should.

  • Yes, the squadron can give you an idea bout cadet
interests, how much time and money they can
invest, and what could make good prizes, etc.

External Program
  • How Wing Promotes External AE
  • AEM Conferences
  • For AEM (teacher and home schooler) members
  • School Visits
  • Very few done because
  • few AEF packets
  • Sample Aerospace Education Foundation Packets
  • Contains teaching plan for different subject
    areas
  • Part of AEM materials they paid for by their 30
    annual membership
  • squadron activities not reported

27
External Program
  • How Wing Promotes External AE
  • NCASE (National Congress on Aviation and Space
    Education)
  • 200 teachers/home schoolers attended last year
  • 100 active CAP members attended last year

28
External Program
  • How Wing Promotes External AE
  • Aerospace Education Members
  • different from regular CAP membership
  • not wear CAP uniform or hold CAP grade
  • not participate in senior member program
  • not serve in senior member positions
  • special permission to fly in CAP aircraft
  • AEM time not creditable to CAP retirement
  • how wing recruits them
  • Some from Wing Website
  • Mostly from National Website

  • Increase CAP AE Exposure in Schools
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • You are the wings External Aerospace Education
Officer and want to become more active in the
wings elementary schools. Presently, you have
Aerospace Education Members in two of the wings
16 counties (each within 15 miles of your
location, incidentally), and schools in four
    other counties are interested.

  • Increase CAP AE Exposure in Schools
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • There are 12 units in the wing, with 10 units
having aerospace education officers. These units
are in 10 of the wings 16 counties, and there
are units where schools either already
    participate or have expressed interest.
  • Develop a plan to increase CAPs aerospace
education exposure in the wings schools.
  • questions and answers on following overheads

  • What resources (people, facilities, etc.) can you
tap can you tap to assist you in this effort?
  • Resources you can tap include the AEOs and
AEMs, the State Director can also make the
initial contact, neighboring wings can also give
you ideas and hints about what has made their
    programs successful.

33

  • How aggressive do you want to be in reaching the
    wings schools?

34
External AE Case Study
  • Increase CAP AE Exposure in Schools
  • (p. 12 in Student Guide)
  • How aggressive do you want to be in reaching the
    wings schools?
  • This depends on the amount of attention you can
afford to give, the relative health of the
program as a whole, the resources you have
available, and the level of activity you feel you
can sustain for a given length of time.

35
External AE Case Study
  • Increase CAP AE Exposure in Schools
