Basic to IMBs UEPG ProcessThe process is as if
it were a tube with nothing in it.Following the
strategy development process produces a strategy
specific to a given UEPG
4
Foundational Functions in Perspective Addressed
in this Presentation
  • Evangelization is understood to include the
following functions engagement of the people in
the EPG witness discipleship leader mentoring
and any other functions leading to plant churches
that can multiply themselves within the EPG.
  • There are Foundational Functions in an EPG
    Strategy Planning Process
  • Putting an EPG Planning Process into PracticeThe
Nuts and Bolts of an EPG Engagement and
    Evangelization Process

5
Segment Society by Identifying Each EPG
  • Identify each EPG in that setting (urban or
rural) according to a panta ta ethne Great
    Commission mandate.
  • This means avoiding segmentation and engagement
of a population according to existing
    sociological strata and segments
  • Sociological demographics will come into the
picture later in this process but not initially
and not separately from an EPG process

6
Viewing People Through Sociological and
Anthropological Lens
  • At this point it is important to clarify the
difference between a sociological approach toward
society and an anthropological (EPG) approach
  • Most Americans and Westerners have been schooled
and live in social and economic settings that are
understood and engaged through a Sociological
    approach to society
  • This is true of the USA where business looks at
America according to a sociological view

7
Sociological Segmentation of Society
  • There are the segments of Lower, Middle and Upper
    Classes (Each has three segments)
  • Segmentation by Urban and Rural
  • Segmentation by Rich and Poor
  • Segmentation by Male and Female and by age
segments (A Population Pyramid is built.)
  • Segmentation by Vocations or Unemployed
  • Segmentation by Economics such as Income
  • These are Sociological Demographics

8
Viewing People Through Sociological and
Anthropological Lens
  • A UEPG approach initially looks at society
    through anthropological lens
  • Segment first by ethnolinguistic groups
  • Consider linguistic status by dialects
  • Begin identifying the ethnes worldview
  • After looking at the people through
anthropological ethnic people group lens, then it
is appropriate to consider the sociological
strata within each ethnolinguistic people group

9
Seeing People Through Sociological or
Anthropological then Sociological Lens
  • Within each ethnolinguistic people group it is
then legitimate and sometimes necessary to
    consider the various sociological demographics
    within a given ethne
  • This is where we get the title People Group
    Segments not from sociological segments
  • Some have missed the mark here and started with
the sociological strata of the entire society
before first narrowing to an ethne

10
Establishing an EPG Priority Ranking among all
the Ethne
  • Rank the identified Ethnic People Groups by
  • Evangelization percentage of the ethnes total
    population
  • Evangelical Church Christian presence. This is
the step that many leave out of the process. If
an ethnic group has churches (Christian presence)
it should automatically move to a lower
    engagement priority.)
  • Christian resources available to and in each EPG.
(If Christian resources exist in tandem with
Christian resources then that ethne moves to a
    lower priority.)

11
Establishing an EPG Priority Ranking among all
the Ethne
  • Notice
  • Scripture availablity and possession is number 1
    among the Christian resources
  • Oral and literate status follows Scripture.
Orality of an ethnic moves them higher in
    priority.
  • Our Great Commission theology and our GC
compatible missiology is to always to give
priority of assignment of evangelizers (SCs) to
    unengaged, unevangelized, thus unreached ethnic
people groups before placing an SC with an ethne
that has had evangelizers and has some
    evangelical churches and Christian resources.

12
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • Determine by the previous process the least
reached ethnic people groups within the setting
under consideration and list them according to
those priority items. (The previous functions are
the responsibility of the Regional Office.)
  • At this time, a Strategy Coordinator should have
been recruited, put through TTE initially trained
and then through SC training. Then the
    evangelization responsibilities to shift to
    him/her the team

The Recruited SC Engages the Ethne and Initiates
EvangelizationResearch is the Initial SC Task
  • Demographics of the People Group concerning items
    on the CPPI
  • Status of Scripture Study continued
  • Status of Learning Communication
  • Completing the Worldview Study initiated by
    Region
  • Ethnic People Group Relationship Study

15
The SCs Research Responsibilities and Tasks
Continued
  • Partnership relationships matrix checked and
    followed
  • Follow-up use of Worldview to list the
  • Barriers
  • Bridges
  • Gatekeepers

16
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • The SC should pick up and continue the process of
identifying the Worldview of the EPG
  • It is good for the supervisors of the SC to
    initiate the worldview identification process,
which In many cases can be initially facilitated
by volunteers. (See the IMBs Worldview
Instruments the Exploring the Land process
and materials. ETL should be shaped to fit the
    IMB worldview matrix.)
  • Once identified, the worldview should be
critically compared to a functional Scriptural
    worldview

17
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • The SC should pick up and continue the process of
identifying the Worldview of the EPG
  • Identify the barriers (and the bridges
gatekeepers) within the worldview that must be
positively addressed and accepted for EPG persons
to become authentic, practicing Christians. If
not, this is major reason for the rejection of
Christianity and the emergence of syncretism,
ritualism backdoors among the believers within
    the churches.

18
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • Based upon an up-to-date Worldview document,
proceed to develop Gospel Presentation Content in
    appropriate style
  • Select from Scripture the events (not conceptual
items developed from Scripture) that will most
    effectively and positively confront the
    identified worldview variables
  • Select the Gospel presentation style/format that
best fits the majority of the people. Do not
follow the natural temptation to cater to the
minority, especially if the minority are
literates. Use restraint when tempted to demand
and key Gospel presentation on literates in an
    oral society.

19
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • Follow the development of Gospel presentation
content with the packaging of that Gospel
presentation in the aforediscovered and decided
    style/format.
  • At this point, research and discover venues,
channels and persons best suited for engaging and
evangelizing a given EPG. (See study.)
  • Recruit and prepare these persons as evangelizers
and place them within the EPG as planned

20
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • A Strategy Associate or an experienced Cluster
leader should look over his/her shoulder and
guide in the development of an Endvision. An
Endvision is a critical piece in the process. An
Endvision is the goal post that the SC the
evangelizers continually look toward to measure
how well church planting is moving toward that
    goal.
  • An Endvision is a futuristic look at the people
group at a 10-15 evangelized status that is
    conducted in a narrative format.

21
It is at this point in the process that a
strategy begins to emerges from the tubethe

23
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • This will be followed by developing the church
planting model that is contained in The Master
    Plan.
  • Do not attempt to develop the Master Plan prior
to this point in the process. If that is done it
    will be
  • A Generic model which will be deadly to
    theologically and culturally appropriate church
    planting and multiplication
  • Lacking in worldview orientation
  • Without an authentic Endvision to guide the
    Master Plan use

24
Check your Endvision and Master Plan to be
certain that the Characteristics or Components of
the Model Church are present!
25
Following an EPG Priority Process
  • Implementation becomes the final step in the
    process.
  • A region should place the template of the IMBs
Ethnic People Group theological and missiological
approach, including the common Church Planting
Movement characteristics, over the SC-led teams
church planting plans, practices and results as a
basis for making corrections in fulfilling the
    Endvision.
