5Fundraising with LDS Units
- One of our objectives has been to insure that
all budget costs be funded either through the
100-percent reimbursed items or the per-person
budget allowance and that there be no separate
assessments or fund-raising activities to support
the programs of the Church. An exception would be
that relating to our affiliation with the
Scouting program, which has as a basic tenet that
a boy earns his own way. Permitted under the
budget allowance program is the financing of
prescribed Cub, Scout, Varsity, and Explorer
activities. - President Thomas S. Monson, The Lords Way,
Ensign, May 1990, 92 - While the LDS Church does not endorse any
specific fund-raiser or product, if conducted in
accordance with the LDS Church Budget Allowance
Guidelines, (1998), the sale of popcorn would be
an appropriate fund-raising tool for
LDS-sponsored units. - Charles W. Dahlquist, Young Men General
President, 2005 - If budget allowance funds are insufficient and
young men are unable to individually earn enough
for the one annual camp, they may hold group
fund-raising activities. - Young men (Scouts, Varsity, and Venturing) and
Cub Scouts may hold group fund-raising activities
to pay for equipment for the unit if there is not
sufficient budget allowance. - Funding Youth Activities, The Budget
Allowance Guidelines, page 2

20 - (based on average sales of 20)
- IF WE REACH OUR GOAL, NO MONEY FOR CAMP WILL
COME OUT OF THE PARENTS POCKETS
15Ways we plan to sell popcorn
- Show-n-Sell
- Scouts sell checked out popcorn in front of
retail location like grocery stores, post office,
Wal-Mart, Target, etc. - Military Donation
- Collect cash donations in 25 increments to
purchase popcorn to be sent to military troops
abroad. - Online Order
- Using a Code Key customers can purchase popcorn
online at OrderPopcorn.com and have product
shipped directly to them. - Take Order (Fill It Up Form)
- Scouts use form to take order going door-to-door,
parents taking form to work, or ask relatives to
buy. - The Church does not allow door-to-door sale of
any product.
16Suggestions for Increasing Sales
Tape Mini Order Form or sticker with Code Key to
every box for follow-up online sales. Have
samples available. Focus our sale on Scouting and
not on popcorn. We need a poster or sign to
display why our unit is selling popcorn. Use
pictures when possible. Parents review all the
online training materials found at
Trails-End.com. Have all youth wear a well-kept
uniform.
17Now it is time to split up into two groups
