7Values and Visions
- Our vision is to develop the IFBC towards
becoming a networking community, which empowers
the member organizations to support those who are
affected by alcohol and other drug related
problems in a holistic way. - By holistic we understand the integration of the
spiritual dimension into the definition of health
by the WHO. The WHO defines health as psysical,
social and psychological wellbeing in its
totality. - Our work is based on professionalism and the
Christian values of unconditional support of
people in need. - We support both abstinence as an act of
solidarity with people affected by alcohol
problems as well as responsible drinking behavior

13Comparing voluntary and professional Work
- VOLUNTARY PROFESSIONAL
- PERMISSIBILITIES DETERMINATIONS
- mission salory/work motivation
- personal relatedness connected inside the
system - idealistic enthusiasm gt .....is not
so great - personal experience gt view to outside
- sharing problem and experience gt institutionally
distanced - DETERMINATIONS PERMISSIBILITIES
- incompetence professionalism
- using women without salory work occupational
wage labour - locality uneven locality societally
universal - possibilities without limits rational
organisation - no competence standard requirements competence
standard level requirements - uncertainty, insecurity stability publicly
guaranteed
14PROFESSIONALITY AND COMPETENCE IN VOLUNTARY WORK
- Basis is in all working areas composed by
- knowledge about the essence of human being,
about his growth and development, about his
action and social his networks - knowledge about society and its contemporary
conditions/requirements/limits/possibilities
15Difference between pastoral care and therapy
16Pastoral care and its 10 commandments
- Stand still. Give your time!
- Trust yourself. Even if the situation is unknown
be confident you can handle it with help of
God - Do not estimate only by your own standards
- Listen, do not interrupt, do not present your own
positions too quickly - Offer understanding and latitude, do not condemn,
do not moralize. Try to accept and understand the
human being, although you can not to approve all
his doings. - Confront the difficulties, do not try to avoid
them. These appear in the crisis situations often
- when dark rage has arised in human soul. One
keeping pastoral care must have the ability to be
the wall for weeping. - Help to correct and specify the problems
- Acknowledge your limits as helper and never do
not promise more than you are capable of - Lead your client to another place for aid - if it
is necessary. - Obligation of confidence pastoral care
conversations never ever should be a source of
gossip

on conversion and Christian care of substance

rehabilitation

different care spaces - OUTLOOK MODEL
- COMBINATION MODEL
- SERVICE MODEL
- PROFESSIONAL MODEL
19What is good treatment in the Blue Cross?Paper
from the Nordic Blue Cross workgroup, 2005-2007
- The focus on change
- Change is possible
- Standards of quality for treatment
- Treatment without supportive measures after the
treatment period is often not very effective - Goal of treatment
- More focus on the family and social network of
the client - Taking care of the children
20The NBC view on spirituality in treatment
a. Service/diakonia b. Spiritual needs c.
Spiritual support ! To copy with guilt and
spiritual shame
21What kind of problems are more painful for
contemporary NGO-s
- Not healthy contest and rival atmosphere giving
influence in NGO-s sectors project based work
constricting the potential networks. - Determined priorities of administrative offices
not accepting activities beyond these. - Everlasting difficulties to define the relations
between professional and voluntary work ( f ex
acceptance of non-formal and practice-based
education) - Project work method in practice it is hard to
guarantee continuity for the activities - !! Paradox to survive can these who are totally
independent in their resources or are supported
by aid from abroad partners guided by strong
sense of mission
22What can we do?
- In concrete work forms contribute on volunteers
offering their time instead of money - Using existing resources organize possibly more
multifunctional activities (for.ex. evening times
for self-aid groupes, family clubs Hudolins
method etc) - In fund-raising by opening new sources be
possibly more inventive and flexible supporting
the previous activities by default also. - Individual attention and the emphasis to families
(coodependency victims children, wives, mothers
e t c ) - In the prevention to be the near-raisers in
value education - ones every choise and every
act is the MESSAGE for youngsters - To extend alcohol-free enviroment by every
possible way
23Thank you for listening . God bless you!
