• Connection to AARNet3 is difficult, but this is a
  more desirable solution.

• Application is a collaboration between UTas,
  ATNF, Swinburne, Geoscience Australia and the
  ANU.
• A 0.5M Fibre trenching and endpoint
  equipment for Mt Pleasant Sandy Bay.
• A 80k Minor equipment Research Associated
  for 1 year.
• B 120k Fibre trenching and endpoint equipment
  for Mt Canopus Mt Pleasant at 1 Gb/s and
  remote operability of Canopus.

The Bigger Picture

• Current connection Hobart-Melbourne is at a few
  100 Mb/s.
• 7.5M Federal funding to connect University and
  CSIRO in Tasmania to AREN.
• 2.5 Gb/s when Basslink project completed in
  2006/7.
• Timeframe for 10 Gb/s ??
