Title: Intelligent ComputerAided Manufacturing CAM Systems Laboratory

1
Intelligent Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
Systems Laboratory
Samuel H. Huang, Associate Professor and
Director Intelligent CAM Systems
Laboratory http//www.eng.uc.edu/icams
2
Overview
  • Established in September 1998 with a mission to
    advance manufacturing technology by developing
techniques to effectively integrate human and
computer systems in a production environment
  • Underlying technique is a modeling process
(similar to that of human cognition) for
developing intelligent systems that have the
ability to capture the decision maker's
preference and can handle information uncertainty
  • Current team member 1 Post-Doc research
    associates, 4 Ph.D. students, 2 M.S. students
  • Alumni 2 Post-Docs, 27 graduate students (3
    Ph.D. dissertations, 15 M.S. theses, 9 M.S.
    projects), and 3 undergraduate students

3
Knowledge-based Modeling
  • An expert centered data driven modeling approach
that integrates knowledge embedded in data and
    those possessed by experts
  • IF-THEN linguistic rules is used as a unified
knowledge representation scheme because of their
compatibility to expert heuristic reasoning and
    their adaptability to actual data
  • General modeling framework with enabling tools

4
Application Examples
5
Integrated Production Solution
6
Process Optimization/Integrated Process and
Tolerance Design
7
Production Diagnostics/Equipment Health
Monitoring
8
Metrics-based Supplier Evaluation
  • Configure metrics based on business strategy
  • Capture management preference using scale factor
and utility function (capable of handling
    uncertainty)
  • Evaluate supplier based on multi-attribute
    utility analysis

9
Manufacturing Education A Virtual Corporate
Experience-based Approach
  • Courses are mapped into job functions within a
    virtual corporation
  • Students act as employees of a company working
    collectively to
  • engineer and produce profitable products
