VALEES
  • Valley Education for Employment System (VALEES)
    is a regional delivery system established by the
    Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) which
    serves 17 school districts, two area
    career/vocational centers, one special education
    cooperative and Waubonsee Community College,
    covering a five-county area.

VALEES is divided into three sub-regions
  • Indian Valley Sub-region is comprised of eleven
    feeder districts to the Indian Valley Vocational
    Center
  • Fox Valley Sub-region is comprised of three
    feeder districts to the Fox Valley Career Center
  • River Valley Sub-region is comprised of East
    Aurora, West Aurora and Oswego districts.

We are directed by ISBE to
  • Provide curriculum and program development 
  • Provide staff development in-services/workshops
    for teachers, counselors and administrators
  • Assist schools in technology and equipment
    updates
  • Assure efficiency, access, and equity in
    delivery of career and technical education
  • Gather and report information for the Illinois
    Student Information System (ISIS)
  • Submit and administer career and technical
    education- related grants and disperse funds to
    member districts
  • Promote local business and industry partnerships
    with education at all levels.

  • Coordinating Council
  • VALEES governing body
  • Comprised of nine superintendents (three from
    each sub-region)
  • Meets four times a year to approve all VALEES
    actions, activities, expenditures and regional
    plan

  • Steering Committee
  • One administrator from each school is
    represented in this committee.
  • Meets four times a year to formulate
    recommendations to the coordinating council on
    VALEES activities, goals, expenditures, and
    regional plan.

  • Student Services
  • Comprised of counselors to establish activities
    and projects which will benefit all students,
    particularly those in career and technical
    education courses and at-risk students.

  • Program Committees
  • Committees in several CTE educational areas made
    up of teachers from area high schools and
    Waubonsee Community College to develop goals and
    objectives specific to their program area for the
    benefit of students in that field of study.

  • VALEES has twelve active career and technical
    program committees.  These committees are
    comprised of secondary and post-secondary
    instructors and administrators who meet regularly
    to address the following goals
  • Review/revise current curriculum
  • Articulate secondary courses to post-secondary
    institutions
  • Plan and implement in-service opportunities for
    teachers/counselors
  • Develop promotional materials for CTE

  • Business Advisory Committee
  • Each program committee has been charged with
    developing an Advisory Committee comprised of
    area business and industry representatives in
    their respective areas. Advisory committees
    usually meet once per year with secondary and
    post-secondary teaching staff.

    Somonauk-Leland)

  • Career Technical Education Improvement Grant
    (CTEI)
  • This new grant is a combination of several
    previous state grants Administrative,
    Elementary Career Development, Formula
    Reimbursement, Program Improvement, Work-Based
    Learning and State Tech Prep

VALEES Perkins
  • Perkins Grant
  • Funding based on a formula including Chapter I
    allocation, P.L. 94-142 count and 9-12
    enrollment. Funds are allocated locally based on
    a system of target sites as directed by the
    Illinois State Board of Education
  • (Batavia, East Aurora, Geneva, IVVC, Oswego,
    Sandwich, West Aurora)

VALEES Tech Prep Federal Grant
  • Tech Prep Federal Grant
  • Allocations are assigned to region by state and
    federal sources. These funds must be used for
    region-wide activities.

    program/track
  • Now is for all students at all grade levels
  • ETC philosophy A cooperative K-12 effort to
    promote career education that recognizes the
    importance of career awareness, development, and
    preparation at all levels and for all students.

  • Why is this so important?
  • Students will probably end up working
    approximately 86,000 hours of their life 40
    hours/week _at_ 50 weeks/year between the ages of 22
    and 65. (Chad Foster, 1999)
  • Educators have a responsibility to help students
    make informed decisions regarding their futures
