240 subject areas - The states primary undergraduate teaching
institution. - Draws from top third high school graduates.
Minimum 2.0 GPA required, but 3.0 GPA
automatically qualifies for admission. - Its admissions priority is upper-division
students transferring from California Community
Colleges - CSU educates more community college transfer
students than all other California universities
and colleges combined - Average cost is around 16,000.00 per year
7University of California (UC)

- Draws from the top 1/8 of the states high school
graduates. Average GPA in 2007 3.78 with SAT of
1763/ACT of 24.8. - Offers various advanced degrees, including law
and medicine - Academic study areas on UC campuses span more
than 150 disciplines, one of the broadest ranges
of study of any university in the world - More UC academic programs are rated among the top
ten nationally than any other private or public
university - With approximately 42,000 graduate students, UC
produces 7 percent of the nations Ph.D.
candidates nationally - Average cost is around 23,000.00 per year
8Independent Colleges
- Nine out of ten students receive financial
assistance - More students graduate in four years, saving as
much as 100,000.00 - Every admission application is personally
reviewed - Classes are smaller and taught by professors (not
teaching assistants) - Each student is given personal attention to help
them succeed in college and life - 40 of the students are from communities of color
- 60 of the students are women
- Although the overall coast is higher per year
than public schools, the average financial aid
package is 18,900.00
9Technical/Specialist Schools
- These schools help students pursue an intense
program in their area of interest, such as
fashion design, computer animation, automotive
mechanics, culinary arts. - Financial aid is available for all accredited
post-secondary schools. Students interested in
these specialty schools should contact their
admissions office to procure an application. - This is a great way for students who do not
necessarily want to pursue a four-year degree but
who want to specialize in a particular area to
acquire that knowledge directly out of high
school. - Most specialty schools have placement services
for their graduates.
