Hannah spent her work experience at a new health
club in her town which was a real eye-opener. The
club was very state-of-the-art and had a
fantastic range of facilities and
equipment. During the first week she worked
alongside the spa therapist, helping her prepare
the clients for their treatment and making sure
everywhere was clean and tidy. The second week
however was far more exciting! Hannah was given
the opportunity to assist with the provision of a
range of heat and wet treatments as well as other
holistic treatments. In addition, she was asked
to put forward ideas about how the club could
expand their sale of beauty products, so Hannah
suggested a page on the clubs website that
advertised the products. She was also able to
suggest ways in which the products could be more
effectively
Hannah noticed that many of the college staff
appeared to get tired and stressed towards the
end of each term so thought that massage
treatments may help to relive anxiety and improve
their performance in the classroom. She arranged
a series of Indian head massage and aromatherapy
demonstrations in college and then conducted
research to find out if staff would like to have
similar treatments during breaks. Using the
findings, Hannah arranged for therapists to come
into college to give the staff some treatments
which everyone agreed had a positive effect on
their teaching. Hannah costed a full programme
of treatments and presented the report to the
college welfare officer. As a result they started
to offer a similar service each term. Towards the
end of the academic year, Hannah analysed the
project, highlighting successes and required
improvements for the future.
displayed, in addition, identifying some of the
latest products that had just become available on
the market. Although she was absolutely
shattered at the end of the work experience
Hannah was really excited about the prospect of
working in a similar club when fully qualified.
Even though a career as a spa therapist was
still some way away, Hannah was determined to get
there!
