Project Overview
  • Background
  • The current LAMA prototype, at LASP, is too large
for space applications and is not made with space
    rated materials
  • New Prototype instrument
  • Use space-qualified hardware
  • Satisfy size and mass specifications.
  • Overall Objective
  • Design a space-rated scaled model of the LAMA
instrument and to minimize its mass. To verify,
results will be compared to the existing LAMA.

Resources
  • Facilities
  • LASP laboratories and testing facilities
available for the fabrication and testing of the
    Mini-LAMA.
  • Additional Advisors
  • Professional mechanical and electrical engineers
and a project manager will be available to meet
with and assist students in the tasks of
designing the flight instrument. The design and
    development of the laboratory prototype
instrument will be supervised by project customer
    Zoltan Sternovsky. Any additional instruction
will be provided by LASP engineers.
  • Clarification
  • Beyond guidance, if a particular component of the
project is determined to be outside of the range
of the students ability or knowledge, that
component shall be the responsibility of the
professional advisors to fabricate or educate the
student to a level of competence. This is to
ensure that the responsibilities of the students
fall with in the scope of Senior Design
  • Funds
  • In addition to Senior Project funds, LASP will
further provide 10,000 to 30,000 in additional
    funding for the project.
  • Manufacturing
  • Any electronic parts that are too complex for the
student team to manufacture will be manufactured
by professionals at LASP. Any commercially
available subsystems will be purchased rather
    than manufactured.
