• Image Mosaics
• Tile a set of smaller pictures to represent a
  larger image
• Color correct some of the tiles to more fully
  suggest the target image

Vision Surface Mosaics

• Perform the same thing, but for 3d surfaces
• Given a set of 3d models, make them into a larger
  model
• We envision the Stanford Bunny made up of
  surfaces
• Teapots
• Volkswagen Bugs
• Buddha Statues
• Dragons
• Michelangelo's David

Possible Implementation

• Start with something simple
• Given a source and target, find good match for
  that one source
• Compute random local surface descriptors (like
  spin images)
• Compute surface descriptor for entire source
  object
• Place at best location
• If this works, use greedy algorithm
• For a given set of source models, place best fit
• Place until enough of the target has been covered
• This may be good enough for initial results

• Consider optimizing by minimizing objective
  function
• Greedy algorithm makes initial guess
• Could consider using following metrics in
  objective
• Surface difference using local shape descriptor
• Volume overlap of tiled surface and target
• Coverage of target surface
• Distance between tiled surfaces (not too big, not
  small)
• Could deform source surfaces (as in Human Body
  Shapes paper)

• Better chance to get into SIGGRAPH in the first

• Almost anything would be considered good
• Its art, it doesnt have to beat some metric or
  look perfect

• By our definition of success, its the best
  candidate
• Success means publications
• Success means interesting pictures
