Objective
  • Evolve design strategies for a peri urban site
    near to Bangkok with following goals
  • Develop demonstration model of sustainable
    urbanization (reflecting not essentially low
    density development but of medium to high density
    solutions that could be solutions for future)
  • Macro planning of habitat to ensure sustainable
    site planning and linkage with city.
  • Ecofriendly models of housing, at micro level, to
    have minimum energy use( maybe generating surplus
    energy by appropriate choice of design strategies
    and energy generation choice) water conservation,
    re use, recycle, waste minimization/waste-energy
    options, choice of appropriate building
    materials.
  • To be able to meet UNEP objectives of
    information sharing, knowledge building
  • Replicable model with adaptability to other
    regions and context
  • Mainstreaming

Sustainable site planning
  • Logical inferences from study of site parameters
  • Natural slope, run off patterns and storm water
    flows not to be disrupted
  • Minimize footprint , minimize hard surface,
    retain pineapple plantation
  • Check run-offs and if strategies would affect
    other sites
  • Water harvesting at site level (look at options
    of recharge/storage- to study the percolation on
    site as it is sandy soil)
  • Not connected to city sewer line decentralized
    options for waste treatment and reuse waste water
    for landscaping purposes

    tariff to evolve energy generation on site
  • Design strategies to reduce demand at building

    house)

    landscapes, go for more native plantations,
    forested cover and under growths)
  • Rain water harvesting
  • Recycle ,re use back on site

    requirements of local climate (hot and humid
    conditions)
  • Light weight construction recommended if going
    for full ac buildings with provision of external
    insulation

  • Passive low energy houses have much lower eco
    foot print an should be promoted
  • Air conditioned houses provide better comfort
    conditions round the year
  • In Bangkok all houses are air conditioned
