Presenting Green Valley Academys Parent Liaison
  • Building Bridges between Home, School and the
    Community

Introduction
  • My name is Sandra Butler and I am your link
between home and school and my goals are to help

and procedures, to help you learn how to
implement PBIS at home, and to help you become an

What is PBIS?
  • PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions
    and Support.
  • It is a process for creating safer and more
    effective schools .
  • PBIS focuses on improving a schools ability to
teach and support positive behavior for all
    students.

4
Ways to Support PBIS at Home
  • Catch your child doing something good and praise
    him/her.

    are met.

Communicating with Adolescents
  • If your adolescent seems reluctant to talk, do
    something together-take a walk, go for a
drive, perform a chore around the house.
  • When your adolescent makes a strong statement,
say something like, I can see that you are
upset I want to hear what you have to say
    Then listen without interrupting.
  • Ask questions that shift focus away from your
childAsk how a friend feels about a certain
topicAsk what advice your child would give a
    friend.

through Everyone needs some personal space.
  • Teens are changing and developing Get to know
and adjust to the new person.
  • Teens want independence but they need to know
that hands other than their own are ready to take
    the wheel-reaffirm your authority.
