Independent Reading
  • Quarterly Book Slips
  • Purpose to encourage out of class reading and
    encourage interaction with
  • parents/guardians about reading
  • Page Breakdown
  • Students set individual goals
  • Due date is set at the beginning of each
    quarter
  • Students turn in signed bookslips to the turn
    in basket
  • Bookslips are totaled and grade is determined
  • Students are to be reading for 30 minutes
    daily
  • outside of class

  • Purpose to instruct students in reading skills
    and strategies pertinent to the fifth grade
    curriculum
  • Most days will include a mini-lesson
  • Topics include those listed in 5th grade
    handbook
  • Students will be grouped heterogeneously in
    groups, pairs or work independently to practice
    and reinforce the skill/strategy
  • There may be occasional homework from whole group
    lessons

  • Group meetings will vary depending on week
  • Meetings include reading a text at that groups

  • Some quarters Mrs. G will choose the presentation
    format, other quarters students will choose.
  • A rubric with detailed instructions is always
    given in class.
