Age of your child
  • Depending on the age of your child, their shoes
will have different purposes, if you are buying
for a baby it is purely as an accessory, whereas
if you are buying for toddler you will want to
look for shoes that they can wear to protect
their feet. Their shoes will need to be
breathable, with a firm yet flexible sole that
will be easy for them to learn how to walk.
  • It is recommended to choose lightweight materials
such as soft leather, canvas or cloth shoes so
that your childs feet can breathe and move
    adequately.
  • You dont want the materials to be too tight, as
is the case in most plastic or rubber shoes, but
you also want to make sure they provide support
and stability. Make sure you can bend the shoe in
    your hand without much effort.

Footwear sizing guide
  • When it comes to measuring your childs foot it
is recommended to take them to a store where they
    can be properly measured.
  • Get your child to stand up when they try on the
shoes. First, you will want to check the heal and
make sure that there is enough space to fit your
pinky finger between their heal and the heal of
    the shoe.
  • Next, you will want to check the front of the
shoe by placing your thumb between your childs
longest toe and the front of the shoe. If this
place is smaller than the width of your thumb
then the shoe is too small.
  • Watch your child walk and make sure that the
shoes are slipping off the back of their heel.
  • Be sure to remember that your childs foot will
expand throughout the day, hence why these spaces
    are necessary.

Lace, Velcro or snap fasteners?
  • A toddler will find it difficult to do up laces,
and will probably find Velcro fastening easier
for taking their shoes on and off.
  • If your preschooler is able to tie up laces, and
you prefer this option, make sure the laces are
long enough to double tie so they dont come
undone and cause your child to trip.
  • Snap fasteners are a great addition to your
childs shoe collection, no matter what ages they
are as there are extremely easy to work with and
    non-time consuming.
