2Why Chart Stuff?
- Charts and graphs convey concepts more clearly
than columns of tabular data - expose trends relationships
- objectives
- create separate and embedded charts
- move, resize, enhance and format charts
- examine different charts
- Import data into Excel
3Chart samples
4Initiating a Chart
- Select the range of data to be plotted, including
x y values - Press F11 (default graph, separate sheet)
- or click graph icon
- or right-click worksheet tab choose insert
- x data assumed to be longest side of range
- (left-most or top-most side)
- can modify the assumptions later

- Opportunity to
- add or remove a range
- provide or point out a name for each range
- pick a non-standard x-axis

11Selecting non-adjoining areas
- Either select them in the first place
- select 1st range, release mouse button
- Ctrlselect 2nd range, release etc.
- or select all delete unwanted ones later
- step 2 - add/remove ranges w/ Series tab
- or click on a ranges chart line press Delete
- or select a new range drag onto chart

- Select chart chart icon
- go through 4 steps
- right-click chart area
- alt. route to 4 steps
- right-click on a data line
- change order, characteristics, colour
- nice trend line (see next page)

- select range
- provinces, states, or countries as x-axis
- click on globe icon (may need to add it)
- mark where youd like it.

20Importing Text Data
Open non-Excel files same way, just specify to
look for alternate file types

Note watch for multiple spaces

meaningless text
