Highlights ofLeidys History

• 1727 Jacob Leidy arrives in Philadelphia from
  Germany.
• 1953 Leidy farm is founded as one of the
  original land grants from William Penn. The
  current Leidys plant still stands on part of
  this tract of land.
• 1856 Thomas G. Leidy builds farm house, which
  now serves as Leidys Inc. corporate
  headquarters.
• 1893 Milton Leidy and his young son Olin begin
  a retail farming operation- traveling by horse to
  Philadelphia to sell produce in the summer months
  and pork products in the winter months.
• 1925 Olin succeeds Milton as sole owner of
  Leidys operation. Purchase truck and begins to
  sell familys pork products- including sausage,
  scrapple and bacon- wholesale to store owners in
  cold winter months.
• 1957 Tom Leidy comes to work for his father,
  Harold, and his grandfather, Olin. A few years
  later, Olin retires and Harold becomes sole
  owner.
• 1962 Terry Leidy joins his brother Tom in
  working for the Leidy family business. Family
  farm is still in operation during the summer
  months.
• 1968 Harold, Tom, and Terry form corporation.
  Leidys Inc. is born.
• 1975 New curing, smoking, processing, and
  shipping areas are built. Harold retires in
  1976. Tom and Terry take over the reins.
• 1980s Leidys modernizes cut floor, finished
  product area, kill floor, smokehouse and
  packaging area.
