Hayes Craze
  • Hayes Craze will begin at 730 tonight!!
  • When you report outside, please find the Puma
    team table to check in first.
  • All Hayes students will get a ticket at check-in
    that will get them a free meal at Hayes Craze.
  • All games are free, so please enjoy yourself!
  • Past team shirts and cinch saks will be for sale
    at our team table for 5.

ACADEMICS

  • Students will also have 2 exploratory classes a
    day.
  • Band and Orchestra are considered year long
    exploratory classes.

  • 1st hour 905-1000
  • 2nd hour 1004-1055
  • 3rd hour 1059-1215 (includes lunch)

LUNCH
  • Students will eat lunch from approximately
    1109-1139. They will be given a 25 minute
    lunch period.
  • Lunch prices are 2.10 breakfast is 1.35.
  • Students will eat lunch with their 3rd hour
    class and must sit at their assigned lunch table.

LOCKERS
  • Locker rentals are 2.00. This is
    non-refundable.
  • Please make sure your student has their locker
    fee money on the third day of school. We will be
    handing out lockers on the third day of school.
  • If your student does not bring in the required
    2.00 they will not receive a locker.
  • Students are allowed to decorate and organize
    their locker as long as what they put up can be
    easily taken down at the end of the year.
  • DO NOT share your combination with ANYONE!
  • Lockers will be handed out by last period teacher.

TEXTBOOKS
  • Students will be assigned textbooks or workbooks
    for some core classes.
  • If a student loses their textbook, or the
    textbook is torn and/or damaged, they must pay
    for the textbook before another one is issued.

Field Trips
  • We will attempt four field trips this year. One
    will occur each nine weeks.
  • Washington DC is our biggest endeavor. We will
    share info with you about this trip after
    tonights orientation in the library.
  • Parents are always welcome to chaperone on field
    trips!

  • The Homework Hotline Number 381-4930. The
    hotline will be updated every day after 5 pm by
    phone and via the web.

Puma Handbook
  • The Puma Handbook will come home the second day
    of school.
  • Teachers will walk through the handbook with
    students in classes.
  • Please review all pages of this handbook and
    return the pages in the back that say return to
    school.
  • Please keep this handbook handy because it does
    contain a lot of important information that you
    will need throughout the school year.

AGENDAS
  • Agendas are 5.00. Please have your money by the
    second day of school. Agendas are required for
    all students.
  • Students must carry their agenda with them to
    EVERY class!
  • Students must fill in their daily homework
    assignments in their agenda. If there is not a
    homework assignment for that class, they must
    write what they did that day in that class in the
    space.
  • Students will receive 10 hall passes per nine
    weeks. If a student uses all 10 hall passes they
    will not be allowed to leave the complex area, so
    they must use them wisely. These are found in the
    back of the agendas.

Good News Postcards

Panther Pride Cards
  • Students are given a panther pride card when they
    are caught living up to the Panther Promise.
  • There are 3 copies of the card one for the team
    leader, one to turn in during lunch, and one to
    take home.
  • When you turn these in during your lunch period,
    you will receive a prize.
  • Also, every 4 ½ weeks, the team will have a
    drawing from the Panther Pride cards for an
    additional prize.

Academic Pep Rallies
  • Every nine weeks, we hold a school wide academic
    pep rally.
  • Students are recognized for their academic
    achievements.
  • Students who receive an honor roll card are also
    recognized by their team leaders.
  • Students are asked to wear their team shirts or
    team colors to show their team pride!!

EXPECTATIONS
  • Follow directions the first time that they are
    given.
  • No outside gum, candy, food, or drink is allowed
    in the classroom.
  • Homework must be turned in on the day it is due.
  • Respect towards all staff members and other
    students is expected.
  • Follow classroom rules, team rules, and school
    rules.
  • Be on time to class and be ready to begin when
    the bell rings.
  • Students must bring their agendas to each and
    EVERY class.

Cell Phones, iPods, Mp3 Players, Etc.
  • These devices are not allowed during the school
    day. This is DISTRICT policy!
  • When students leave the gym or cafeteria in the
    morning, they are to turn these off and put them
    away in their lockers. They are not to be taken
    out again until they are leaving for the day.
  • If they are seen out, they will be confiscated
    and a parent must pick them up from the office.
  • In cases of emergency, students will be allowed
    to use the school phones.
  • If you need to get in touch with your child,
    please call the school and we can get them in

DISCIPLINE POLICY
  • At Edythe Hayes, we use a mark system for
    behavior. The marks and weights of each has been
    determined by the administration and are used
    school-wide.
  • Marks are kept from Thursday to Wednesday.
  • Students who receive more than 5 marks will
    receive a detention. These are given on Fridays.
    An alternate detention packet can be completed
    (By Monday before class begins) in lieu of
    serving detention on Wednesday afternoons.

School-Wide Mark System
  • Students who accumulate 5-9 marks a one week
    period will be given one of the following
    consequences
  • Silent lunch
  • Character education packet- level 1
  • 30 minute detention (Wednesday afternoons)
  • 30 minute team level community service
  • Students who accumulate 10-14 marks within a one
    week period will be given one of the following
    consequences
  • Character education packet level 2
  • One hour detention (Wednesday afternoons)
  • Team isolation
  • Students who accumulate 15 marks within a one
    week period will be given one of the following
    consequences
  • 11/2 hour detention (Wednesday afternoons)
  • Isolation with another grade level
  • Parent/teacher/administration conference will be
    held

Parent Volunteers
  • Parent volunteers are essential for our team! We
    welcome parents to come and help out in any
    capacity that you can!
  • Please complete the parent survey form and return
    to a team teacher or leave at the team table
    during Hayes Craze.

THE FIRST DAY!!!
  • Some eighth graders will be involved in the WEB
    program on the first day of school!!
  • All eighth grade students will report to Puma
    classrooms, by last name, upon arrival.
  • We will be handing out schedules and forms on the
    first day. Parents- please make sure you sign
    and return these forms the next day.
  • Bring supplies with you the first day of school!
    We will begin work!

The Second Day of School!
  • If you eat breakfast at school you will report to
    the cafeteria. If you do not, you will report to
    the gym until you are dismissed.
  • You will follow your normal schedule.
  • Students should bring all their supplies and
    money for agendas to their first hour teacher if
    they failed to do so on the first day. All other
    classroom fees should go to the respective
    teacher.
