Title: Strategic Planning OVERVIEW

1
Strategic PlanningOVERVIEW
2
  • The greatest danger for most of us is NOT that
our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it
is too low and we reach it.
  • - Michelangelo

3
What is Strategic Planning?
  • Strategic planning is a disciplined effort to
shape an organization according to the vision of
its leaders by clarifying fundamental decisions
    and actions.
  • The process of forming a vision of where the
organization needs to head, convert that vision
    into measurable objectives and performance
targets, and craft a plan to achieve the desired
    results.

4
What is a Strategic Plan?
  • A document used by an organization to align its
    organization and budget structure with
    organizational priorities, missions, and
    objectives.
  • A road map that outlines the long-term goals of
an organization or program and details how these
will be achieved by adopting specific strategies,
    approaches and methodologies.

Benefits of Planning 1/2
  • Benefit 1 We will have a well-defined and
sharply focused vision for our future success.
  • Benefit 2 We will be proactive, rather than
reactive in dealing with change that will impact
    the SoM.
  • Benefit 3 We will have a well-defined action
plan with detailed tasks to accomplish in order
    to reach our vision.
  • Benefit 4 We will have everyone in the SoM on
the same page and focused on the same direction.
  • Benefit 5 We will have a higher percentage of
probable success than without a plan.

6
Benefits of Planning 2/2
  • Benefit 6 We will develop action plans with a
breakdown of tasks and due dates to achieve each
goal we set. The percentages of probability will
increase as we commit and carry out the strategic
    action plans.
  • Benefit 7 We will have a method to be held
    accountable.
  • Benefit 8 We will generate and witness
motivation, enthusiasm and commitment among our
    management team members.
  • Benefit 9 We will have a tool to make more
    strategic use of our resources.
  • Benefit 10 We will have a tool to deal with
    personal agendas that may arise.

Strategic Priorities

Strategic Plan Components
  • Goals - provide general purpose and direction.
They are the end result of ultimate
accomplishment toward which an effort is
directed. They generally should reflect perceived
present and future need. They must be capable of
    being effectively pursued.
  • Objectives are statements describing the
results to be achieved by a program and the
manner in which these results will be achieved
over a specified period of time. Usually,
objectives are linked to one or more program
    goals.
  • Indicators - are measures. They indicate progress
(or lack of) toward a result.

11
If you cant measure it
you cant manage it!!!
