History of Hungary

• Hungary was invaded by the Mongols (1241-1242)
• A large part of Hungarys population died
• King Bela IV was king during this time
• Louis I the Great became King (1342-1382)
• Medieval Hungary controlled more territory than
  Medieval France
• Last strong king was Matthias Corvinus
• Was a renaissance king
• Through the centuries, the Kingdom of Hungary
  kept its old constitution
• Granted special freedoms to the nobility
