• Different colonial powers, t/fore SEA did not
  have mutual relationship.
• 1st effort- Japanese tried to merge Indonesia and
  Malaya- to form great Indonesia
• 1959- the first proposal from Tunku A.Rahman and
  received support from Philipine and Thai but
  Indonesia opposed it.
• 1961 ASA was formed but dissolved when Malaya
  proposed FOM.

• 1963- Maphilindo was formed and disolved after
  Indonesia launced confrontation and Philipine
  broke of its ties.
• 8th August 1967- Bangkok declaration was signed
  which Msia, Indo, Thai,Phil and Spore formed
  ASEAN.
• 8 January 1968 - Brunei
• 1995- Vietnam
• 1997- Loas and Myanmar

POLITICAL COOPERATION

• 1- Zone of Peace, Freedom and Neutrality (ZOPFAN)
• to ensure peace keeping and political stability
  in SEA.
• Free from colonization and intervention from big
  countries.
• 2- SEA Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ)
• to ensure all ASEAN members freed from Nuclear in
  security or military.

• 3-Treaty of Amity and coopreation in SEA (TAC)
• It represent a code of international conduct
  governing peaceful relations among countries in
  the region.
• 4- Indo China
• 5- War in Cambodia
• 6- global issues
• 7- ASEAN regional Forum (ARF)

ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION

• - ASEAN members received advantage through the
  co- operation and it involve in world trade
  market and several major important trading
  partners around world.
• - ASEAN is the fourth largest trading entity in
  the world.
• 1- AFTA- to enhance the ASEAN position as a
  competitive production base geared towards
  servicing the global market.

• 4- Co-operation in Food, Agriculture and Forestry
