4Psychoctive Saffron Martini
Saffron is the most valuable spice available on
the world market. Its an ancient delicacy that
still evokes the age of trade and the
extraordinary lengths to which humans will go to
find something unique, exotic and delicious. By
weight the spice is worth more than gold. The
plant requires a human touch, from planting down
to the delicate act of harvesting. It has
steadfastly resisted all attempts to mechanize
and industrialize its production. As much as this
frustrates growers it has also given it a
mystique worthy of its powerful and desirable
flavor.
5Cinnamon Saffron Coffee
The New York Times recently posted a fascinating
article on what is currently going on in the
world of Saffron. It really is quite a tale. The
Saffron trade has always been a dramatic
business. Because it is so difficult to mechanize
its cultivation Saffron has maintained the
mystique of the ancient spice trade when so many
other flavors have become common commodities. The
high price of saffron has of course attracted
many attempts to pass off substitutes or to
adulterate the product. For example corn silk has
been found as an additive in supposedly pure
saffron. Indeed some experts have said that
because fakes are so common people do not
realize the special taste and aroma of real
saffron.
