Electric Bicycles
  • The History of the E-Bike
  • E-bikes have been recognized with numerous U.S.
Patents. One of those patents was granted to
Ogden Bolton Jr., on December 31, 1895, for a
battery powered bike that had a
    6-pole-brush-and-commutator direct current (DC)
hub motor mounted in the rear wheel. This bike
had no gears and the motor could pull up to 100
    amperes (A) from a 10-volt battery.
  • Another e-bike was invented two years later by a
Hosea W. Libbey of Boston. This e-bike was
propelled by a double-electric motor. The
motor was created within the center of the
crankset axel. This model was re-created and
replicated during the 1990s by Giant Lafree
    e-bikes.
  • Classes of E-Bikes
  • A pedal-assisted e-bike uses the motor to
regulate the pedaling. The pedal-assisted motor
enhances the riders pedaling efforts. These
e-bikes are called pedelecs and use a sensor
device to sense the speed or force of the pedals,
or both. There is also a brake activation that
senses if there is a need to disable the motor.
  • The power-on-demand e-bike has a motor that is
operated by the use of a throttle. This is
usually mounted on the handlebars as with a
    motorcycle or scooter.

Electric Bicycle
  • Why would you want to buy an e-bike?
  • Since first being created, the e-bike has gained
in its popularity with lighter frames, longer
lasting batteries, and plenty of styles to choose
from its easy to see why so many people are
buying e-bikes for their everyday, local
commuting needs. Not only is an e-bike capable
of getting you around much faster than a
traditional bike e-bikes also have many other
advantages. An e-bike can make a hill smoother,
allow you to go on an extensive bike ride without
tiring out helps get a person in shape, as well
as allowing a person to just enjoy the outdoors.
Riding an e-bike is an experience that everyone
should try it allows a person the chance to get
out of the car, off the bus and off the roads
onto some back trails where they can experience
the great outdoors at its best.

Electric Bikes
  • The three principle parts of the e-bike are the
motor, drivetrain and battery. An e-bike is
similar to a standard bicycle however, the
e-bike is reliant upon these three main parts.
  • The e-bikes single most significant
characteristic is the electric motor. There are
various types of motors that can be on an e-bike
    such as the front-hub, rear-hub and mid-drive
    motors.
  • Located on the front tire, the front-hub motor
supplies a momentum by spinning the front tire,
this momentum creates the feeling that the e-bike
    is being pulled ahead.
  • Next is the rear-hubthe rear-hub motors operate
by supplying momentum to spin the rear tire this
gives the rider the more ordinary feeling of
being pushed forward. The rear-hub is much
more normal than the front hub and riders seem to
    prefer the rear-hub motor e-bikes.
  • The next type of motor is the mid-drive this one
sends the e-bikes drivetrain the power instead
of sending it to either of the hubs.
  • The battery on an e-bike has a range lasting
anywhere from twenty to sixty miles per each
charge. This is dependent on how the rider uses
the battery either pedaling only, pedal
    assistant and battery only.

6
Why You Should Consider Buying an Electric Bicycle
  • Electric charging
  • Convenient longer-lasting batteries are fitted
into the e-bike and charged in a few hours. Solar
charging options are also available, allowing the
bike to save energy as you ride. When fully
charged, the e-bikes can cover longer distances
    for several hours.
  • Inbuilt security systems
  • You will be able to know of any interference with
your bicycle even when parked far from you. An
application on your phone will alert you of any
attempted vandalism and you will be able to track
any movement. They also have features that allow
you to lock and unlock your electric bicycle with
    your fingerprint.
  • Parking/ Storage space.
  • Parking space in most cities is always never
enough. The available space does not come cheap
either. With your electronic bicycle, you can
simply lock it in a tiny spot and go about your
    business.

7
Why You Should Consider Buying an Electric Bicycle
  • Some sleekly designed e-bikes can be transformed
into smaller sizes and carried anywhere. You can
also fit your bike in areas like the corner of
your office trunk of your car or even under your
desk as it has the ability to fold into half for
    easy storage.
  • Save on commute time.
  • An electric bicycle can beat the speed of cars
especially when there is heavy traffic. They can
fit small sections of the road where even the
smallest car cannot fit and get through traffic.
  • Physical exercise
  • The e-bike has a functionality that allows you to
switch to pedal mode. When you want to become
more active, you can choose to pedal and enjoy
your session as you get to your destination while
    enjoying the fresh air.

Electric Scooters
  • History of Electric Scooter and Motorcycles
  • The first electric motorcycle was patented by
Ogden Bolton Jr., on September 19, 1895 the
following November of the same year there was
another patent filed for an electric bike by a
    Hosea W. Libbey of Boston.
  • Then in London, England in 1896, the bicycle
manufacture known as Humber showed the exhibit of
an electric Tandem bicycle during the Stanley
Cycle Show. This electric bicycle was powered by
batteries and had a motor in front of the rear
wheel. There was a speed control resistance that
was placed across the handle bars, this electric
tandem bicycle was originally designed to use at
    the racetrack.
  • Electric Scooter in Modern Day
  • Currently electric scooter and motorcycles are
becoming the new mode of transportation options.
Because of overcrowded streets and the rising
costs of gasoline, many people are parking their
gas powered vehicles and buying a more economical
electric scooter for everyday, short trips around
    town.
  • Electric scooters are economical, dependable, and
    require very little maintenance. Electric
scooters are great transportation if you are a
student or work in an office. You can ride your
scooter in the bicycle lane and bi-pass all that
congested traffic on the street, getting to work
on time and home even quicker.

9
Electric Scooters
  • Electric scooters are not just for fun anymore
there are also scooters that are made to add
mobility to a disabled or elderly persons life
who before they had their scooter were confined
to a wheelchair and had no independence. Now
with their new mobility scooter, an elderly or
disabled person is no longer dependent on someone
else to come over and push their wheelchair for
them, they can get into their mobility scooter
and ride it to the corner store for groceries, or
just go for a ride around the neighbourhood and
enjoy the day. Gone is their lack of
    independence, thanks to mobility scooters.
  • Even the 9-5ers are parking their gas-powered
vehicles and purchasing an electric scooter to
get around town electric scooters are very
economical and require very little maintenance.
On a fully charged battery a person can travel
several miles before needing another charge.
Just pack along the battery charger in a backpack
or other carry-on luggage type bag, and when you
get to the office, plug it in to ensure you have
enough juice to go to lunch, at lunch time you
can ride your scooter to your favourite lunchtime
hangout and back to the office in less time than
it took to get in your car, drive to the
restaurant, wait for long stopping lights to
change signals, then search for a parking spot,
all this took up valuable lunch break time. With
your scooter you just hop on the scooter and ride
straight to your destinationyou can take you
scooter indoors (in most cases) if not, lock it
up at the bicycle rack out front no hassles at
    all.

Electric Scooters
  • Here are just a few of the good reasons to
    purchase an electric scooter
  • They are lightweight and easy to maneuver this
means that you are not going to tire out just by
    riding an electric scooter.
  • You dont have to take any special classes to
learn how to operate an electric scooter. There
arent any gears to learn how to use just hop on
and push the start button or roll-back the
accelerator on the hand grip, and youre on the
    road.
  • Electronic scooters are very economical. The only
thing you pay for is the electricity you use to
charge your electric scooter. No pulling in at
the pumps and waiting in line to fuel up with
gasolineespecially at the rate gasoline prices
    are increasing!
  • Electric scooters are low-maintenanceno fuel
injectors, radiators or other heavy engine parts
you dont have to do a lot of engine maintenance
on your scooter. Also, you dont have to change
the oil or clean the coolant system. This saves
you a lot of money in the long run.

11
Electric Scooters
  • Your travel costs will be greatly reduced because
you wont have to pay for gasoline.
  • Scooters come with a high-powered, lithium-ion
battery, allowing you to travel for miles with no
    worries.
  • Scooters are safe for all ages. They come
    complete with circuit breakers, safety
    switchgear, power controllers, brake travel
switches, as well as other controller safety
devices that make riding on a scooter safe for
    everyone.
  • You do not need a driver license to ride your
scooter and there are no age limits (unless state
    laws state otherwise).
  • Speeds go up to 20 mph, making it safe to ride on
roads. However, it is still a requirement to
abide by safety rules such as wearing a helmet.

Electric Scooters - The Future Of Individual
Transportation
  • E-scooters can be bought with accessories to
    enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • One of the most important accessories is the
helmet. This protective headgear will prevent
head injuries in case of accidents. A good helmet
should be able to fit perfectly so that it
doesnt come off during a fall.
  • Whether in a familiar territory or not, scooter
security locks are a must have since at some
point you will need to park your scooter outside.
  • A pair of gloves and knee pads are also necessary
when you are operating the E-Scooter. They will
prevent serious hand and knee injuries when you
    fall off your E-Scooter.
  • Cover sheets are a great necessity especially
when you need to leave your electronic scooter
outside. This will protect your scooter from
weather elements like rain, dust and sun,
prolonging the lifespan of your electric scooter.
  • Other important accessories are the phone holder
to place your phone as you ride and a pouch space
that allows you to store groceries and other
    light packages.
