WHAT IS A NORMAL PLATELET COUNT?

• Platelet count is the number of platelets in the
  blood.
• The human body should normally have a healthy
  range of 150000-450000 platelets per mcL of blood.

• If the number of platelets is too low, it can
  lead to excessive bleeding.
• The medical name for a low platelet count is

WHAT CAUSES A LOW PLATELET COUNT?

• Improper production or less production from bone
  marrow caused by a variety of reasons like drugs,
  drug reactions, alcohol, cancers etc.
• Spleen Problems can also be the reason for low
  platelets.

• In some cases the bodys destruction rate for
  platelets is more than the rate at which the
  platelets are produced in the bone marrow.

  formation of abnormal antibodies that activate
  platelets or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

WHAT IS ITP ?

• Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is the
  problem of having a very low platelet count
  without any known reason.
• Most cases of ITP are related to the production
  of antibodies which either destroy or are against
  platelets.
