• For the uninitiated, a cinematograph is
  essentially halfway between a photograph and a
  video. It lets you exist and relive a single

  they are the perfect medium for me. And in hopes

  as I do, I am putting together a little tutorial
  for you all to show you the basics.
• There are a million ways to earn a cinematograph.
  I'm choosing a pretty basic one here so that we
  are not jumping in over our heads. Take your
  photos. Given that what we are going for here is
  those mild trails, you'll definitely need a
  tripod to take some long exposures.
• Find a spot where there's routine traffic going
  by, set up your legs and begin shooting. I shot
  these in f/7 1600 ISO using an exposure period of
  1.6 seconds in my Sony A7rii. It is a great idea
  to use a time delay on the shutter so that you're
  not introducing a shake by simply taking the
  image. To find the sense of motion, you'll need a
  lot of shots. However, since the light trails are
  pretty abstract, the time between these doesn't
  matter as much. The more photos you have, the
  more variation in the movement you'll receive.
  You can probably make this work with as few as
  five shots, but for mine, so I first used 23.
• Bring the images into Lightroom or Photoshop and
  edit them according to your tastes. The only key
  here is to depart enough contrast so that the
  lights actually pop, and you really believe them
  moving. Otherwise this is about your tastes.
  Export them as high-quality .jpegs to a folder.
  You will want to name them using a recurring
  title amount (ie city1.jpg, city2.jpg, etc.)
