Diabetes

• AA and NHOPI adults in Hawaii 2 times more
  likely to have diabetes than Caucasians.
• Native Hawaiians prevalence rates of up to 4
  times higher for age-adjusted type 2 diabetes.
• Japanese American men in Seattle 2-3 times the
  prevalence rates of type 2 diabetes when compared
  to non-Hispanic whites.

Purpose

• Clearinghouse for culturally and linguistically
  appropriate Diabetes Education Material (DEM) for
  AAPIs.
• Create a forum to recruit, catalog and utilize
  the expertise of reviewers from the AAPI
  community.
• To raise the bar for high-quality DEM and
  increase its availability.
