2Performing CPR
- Assess the patients condition
- shake gently and ask Are you okay?
- Lay patient face up on firm flat surface
and call 995
- Open airway by tilting head back and lifting
chin upwards
- Remove any debris in mouth or throat
Statistics show that, if correctly performed,
CPR can make a difference in saving a life
before the paramedics arrive.
3Performing CPR
- Place your cheek close to patients mouth
and look, listen and feel for any signs of
breathing for 10 seconds
- If patient is not breathing, pinch
patients nose close and give two blows into
lungs
- Patients chest should rise with each blow
Basic first aid is like a box of chocolates, you
never know when you will need it until you need
it
4Performing CPR
- Feel for a pulse at the carotid every 5 to
10 seconds. If there is a pulse, perform
mouth to mouth ventilation (rescue breathing)
- If there is no pulse, begin CPR as follows
Do the right thing Learn life saving skills,
the next life you save could be one dearest to
you
5Performing CPR
- Center the heel of one hand on the lower
half of breastbone and cover this hand
with heel of other hand.
- Keep arm straight and push down vertically
for 4 to 5 cm and release.
- Complete 15 compressions at the rate of 100
per minute
- Do not lift your hands in between
compressions
The worst thing to experience is when you know
you could help but did not know how.
6Performing CPR
- Check for pulse. As soon as pulse returns,
stop compressions and check for breathing
- Begin mouth to mouth ventilation (rescue
breathing) until patients natural breathing
is restored
- Continue to monitor patient until advanced
life support is available
CPR stands for Counting on Passer-by s Rescue.
Be that passer-by.
7Performing CPR
Important!
These procedures summarize emergency measures in
CPR. A course should be taken to learn the
proper techniques and procedures to be followed
in special cases, such as neck injuries, airway
obstructions, infant CPR and others.
