INTRODUCTIONMOI UNIVERSITY ACT ON RESEARCH
  • Gives the University mandate to carry out
    research in the basic and applied disciplines.
  • Research activities
  • coordinated, monitored and evaluated by
    University Research Committee of Senate through
    the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor
    (Research and Extension).

  • Seek to establish maintain strong relationships

    including the MGDs

INTRODUCTION
  • There is need for multidisciplinary
    Interdisciplinary involvement in research in
    order to
  • achieve pragmatic solutions to the myriad human
    problems,
  • collaborate with researchers within and without
    the university
  • provide a distinct research activity at the
    Departmental levels
  • Translate departments Schools into Centres of
    Research Excellence.

INTRODUCTION
  • The University sets aside the University Research
    Fund (URF) as University Research Grants to
    competitive project proposals from the University
    Research Community.
  • Members of the University also encouraged to
    apply for grants from other sources.
  • Findings of the University Research Projects
    disseminated through project stakeholders
    meetings, seminars, conferences and/or field days
  • Project findings are also published in external
    and/or University journals following conferences

THE FUTURE OF RESEARCH
  • To commercialize Research products through
    collaboration with Moi University Holdings

    Extension from 3 to 5
  • To introduce rewards to staff and students who
    attract external research funds
  • To establish Moi University Research Endowment
    fund
  • Network establish collaboration with the
    government, industry Alumni
  • To train staff at Ph.D. level through sponsorship
    by the University Council

EXTENSION AND OUTREACH
  • Strategic Issue 9 focuses on outreach
    extension by creation of University Image and
    corporate identity through
  • developing, projecting and maintaining a good
    image and corporate identity in line with the
    vision, mission, values and objectives of the
    university
  • Institutionalization of a working culture
  • Strengthening all-encompassing public relations
    (PR) functions including marketing through
    Internet and brochures.
  • Encouraging staff and students to participate in
    community based activities and services.

    local, national and international levels.

PROJECTION FOR THE FUTURE
  • Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) in
    process of collaborating with Institute For
    Gender Equity Research And Development (IGERD)
    and the North Rift Womens Organization Network
    (NORWON) on gender related issues
  • The three parties organized a symposium on
    conflict and gender violence in December 2005
  • Moi University School of Field Studies (SFS),
    (Athi River Loitoktok) on Environmental, Health
    and Natural Resource Management.
  • Development of the Extension and Outreach Database

PROJECTION FOR THE FUTURE
  • To increase networks with the local and
    international NGOs, CBOs and the local community.
  • To establish sensitization seminars for the
    community on topical issues such as HIV/AIDS
    gender violence conflict resolution over
    resource utilization other social strives.
  • To create forum for dissemination of information
    generated through research to community on
    identified solutions to problems affecting their
    participation in socio-economic activities.

CONCLUSION
  • These series of workshops are aimed at
  • Creating awareness on the aforementioned issues
    in the division of research extension
  • Sensitize staff on research extension related
    goals endeavours of the university
  • Mobilize and encourage staff to take active roles
    in collaborative and multidisciplinary research
  • To enhance enquiry and pursuit of new knowledge
    through research, packaging dissemination for
    outreach extension
