15Term Lists
- Term lists provide auto-complete capabilities
when inputting manual references. - Author and keyword term lists are dynamically
created with each library. Lists for other
fields can also be created if desired. - Pre-fabricated journal term lists contain common
title abbreviations (e.g. MEDLINE). - Journal term lists can be used to format journal
titles to different output style specifications.

three subjects Medicine, Chemistry and
Humanities. - To import the Medical journal term list

21Output Styles
- EndNote contains 1,000 styles, but doesnt
include all possible journal bibliographic
formats. - When submitting to journals with reference
formats not included in EndNote, a custom style
must be created. - Rather than creating a style from scratch, its
often easier to modify an existing style. - Choose an initial style as close as possible to
your final product.
22Output Styles Example Nurse Researcher
- Submissions to the journal Nurse Researcher have
specific format requirements, but there isnt an
EndNote output style. - Their reference formats are similar to the APA
style - Nurse Researcher Journal Article Format
- Ramprogus V (2002) Eliciting nursing knowledge
from practice the dualism of nursing. Nurs Res.,
10,1, 52-64. - APA Journal Article Format
- Ramprogus, V. (2002). Eliciting nursing knowledge
from practice the dualism of nursing. Nursing
Research, 10(1), 52-64.
23Output Styles Example (cont.)
- So, the following elements need to be changed
when customizing the journal article format for
this output style - Remove the punctuation from the author name.
- Remove the period from after the date.
- Replace the full journal title with the
abbreviated title. - Remove the italics from the volume and add a
comma afterwards. - Remove the parentheses from around the issue.
-
- NOTE Similar changes would be necessary for all
reference types used with this custom style.
