Title: Leadership Program Survey Results
1Leadership Program Survey Results Leadership
Development Group 17 March, 2004
2Leadership Development Group
- To help better coordinate and build leadership
development efforts in Cooperative Extension,
several individuals formed an informal group - This group is working to better understand the
number of leadership development programs that
are happening across Kentucky and find ways to
enhance leadership development and leadership
development programs in Cooperative Extension. - As a first step in achieving these goals, the
group decided to conduct a census of leadership
development programs. - County Extension agents were surveyed to assess
their involvement in leadership development
programs.
3- Conducting the Survey
- The survey was sent to the County Extension
Agent Listserve. - Two weeks later, a second round was conducted
and the survey was resent to the County Extension
Agent Listserve. - For the 30 counties who did not respond to
either inquiry, a personalized group email was
sent to agents in each county office with the
original survey included. - After these 3 contacts, 112 counties in total
responded, leaving only 8 counties that had not. - Phone calls were made to the remaining 8
counties.

14Conclusion
- Given the large number of Chamber/Extension
partnerships in leadership development programs,
it is not surprising to see fewer programs in
areas without local Chambers of Commerce - Similarly, more programs in Eastern Kentucky
reported working with non-Chamber groups - Because of the high number of Chamber/Extension
partnerships, many programs follow a similar
model - These results suggest both room for innovation
and a unique contribution of Cooperative
Extension in leadership development program, even
in counties with existing programs.
15Follow-up
- Develop online access to survey results both
overall results and clickable map to access to
county responses to enhance networking
opportunities across counties - Develop a resource on leadership theory and
guidelines for conducting leadership development
programs as well as develop curriculum modules - Explore avenues for providing a leadership
development institute for county agents - Leadership development training for County
Extension Councils - Leadership development training program with
Southern Kentucky Ag. Dev. (SKAD)
