    been made in 2004 and supplemented in 2005.
  • History of the University of Mostar
  • The tradition of higher education in Mostar and
    Herzegovina exists from the end of 19th century.
    The first school of the university level dates
    from 1895. It was Franciscan theology.
  • In 1979, faculties in Mostar are no longer under
    jurisdiction of the University in Sarajevo and
    Mostar becomes an independent university centre

    justifiableness of founding of Medical faculty in
    Mostar, which has contained preliminary teaching
    plan and program...
  • on 18th April 1997., in vice-chancellors office
    of University, Medical faculty has been
    established in Mostar.

  • Reasons for launching the program of Medical
    faculty
  • there were no medical schools within this
    territory of the Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • institutional impact of the School improved
    professional and research capacity of the health
    sector in the region
  • furthermore, striving to become a school with
    well-organized forms of professional education
    and a well-established research capacity, it can
    even hope to attract graduates from other medical
    schools in the future

  • Mobility-friendly student environment
  • The Mostar Medical School has calculated its
    teaching and learning output into the ECTS credit
    system, which qualifies the School for the
    mobility of students according to the
    requirements of the Bologna process.
  • International exchange of students
  • The Mostar Medical School has signed
    collaborative contracts with other medical
    schools in Croatia, Sarajevo, Heidelberg,
    Würzburg and Cork

  • Students surveys and activity of students at
    Faculty
  • Students surveys have been introduced at Medical
    faculty in 2000.
  • At the end of each semester students survey
    about class and teacher is performed, and results
    of those surveys are brought to meetings of
    Facultys council.
  • Every teacher gets his own code by which he can
    read results on the web page of the Faculty about
    his department.
  • Every academic year has each representative in
    Faculty council. On the conferences of Facultys
    council, students are giving their remarks about
    exams, textbooks, performance of teaching.
  • Representatives of students (chosen on students
    elections) are organized into an Assembly of
    students of Medical faculty, which is branch of
    Assembly of students at University of Mostar

  • Faculty co-operates in project "Establishment of
    high-throughput monoclonal antibody production

  • Plans for the future of the Medical faculty
  • Priority is education of persons who have
    finished study of medicine and sending young
    people abroad on post-graduate education and work
    in laboratories.
  • Since the building of Medical faculty has been
    constructed and equipped, there is no obstacles
    that our scientific personal, with other
    teachers-scientists, easily organize scientific
    work in those laboratories
  • Faculty is in course of making program and
    foundation of School of public health in Mostar.
    It would work on protection (prevention) and
    promotion of health in region of Herzegovina and
    further

  • The aim is to develop scientific laboratories,
    doctors post-graduate study and in wholeness,
    connect the work on basic sciences and clinic
    departments.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME
  • Main characteristics of subjects on pre-graduate
    study
  • Medical faculty organizes and deduces teaching
    for getting professional qualification doctor of
    medicine (family physician).
  • Students learn basic medical sciences, clinical
    subjects
  • It is predicted that the best students every
    year, in time of summer holidays, live and work
    for a month in renowned scientific laboratories,
    on faculties, clinical hospitals and other
    scientific and professional institutions out of
    Mostar.

  • Obligatory field praxis, in which students
    performing at least 120 hours of work after the
    fourth and fifth year of study in smaller
    hospitals or clinic
  • Diploma exam comprises 100 hours (50 questions
    from all areas in a multiple choice format).
    Grading of the diploma exam comprises grades
    from the clinical clerkship, grades from the
    Major Elective Module and the final test grade.
  • Students of the final year are writing the
    diploma thesis. Upon the received positive
    evaluation of the thesis, student presents the
    thesis in public orally and in front of the
    Diploma Thesis Evaluation Board.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME
  • Main characteristics of scientific post-graduate
    study Medical care and public health
  • The aim of study is to get introduced physicians
    and workers in health services about contemporary
    aspects of management and education in health
    services,
  • The final goal is to teach physicians, about
    contemporary principles of organization and
    rational usage of medical care and to enable them
    for quality organization of health services and
    promoting of health, which is maybe the most
    important reason of inefficiency of health
    services in this region and further.
