Clinical and Translational Science Awards

• Transform the institutional environment for
  clinical research by
• Integrating existing infrastructure into an
  academic home able to award higher degrees
• Stimulating a new focus on translation bench to
  bedside and bedside to community
• Creating a national consortium that will adopt
  common standards and vocabularies

Translational barriers CTSAs can address

• Bringing experience to clinicians and bench
  scientists
• Support for regulatory requirements consent
  form tracking to FDA submissions
• Support for knowledge databases IP aggregation
  across awardee institutions
• Provide a forum to share experiences and identify
  best practices

Existing CTSA/P41 collaborations

• ITMAT center on translational imaging led by
  Mitch Schnall in Radiology that interacts with U
  Penn imaging 'Resource for Magnetic Resonance and
  Optical Imaging' run by John Leigh
• UCSF is developing a core Mass Spec
  infrastructure that ties the CTSI with Al
  Burlingames future center at Mission Bay and
  Susan Fishers resource at Parnassus.

• How can BTRRs develop or grow their partnership
  with the CTSA program?
• Seek out a CTSA at your own or an affiliated
  institution fully engage in the process that is
  now getting underway, bringing experience and
  perspective
• Work to understand unmet technological needs
• Provide access to highly developed
  infrastructure
• Provide training for physician/scientists
• Partner with clinical researchers to bring
  relevant technologies forward and make them
  transparent, trusted tools in both research and
  health care delivery
