Urology

Cystoscopy Obturator
  • This is the sheath that provides the passage way
through the urethra into the bladder. The scope
is inserted through the lumen and small diameter
instruments can be inserted with it. Saline or
water is attached at the inflow port on the side
of the obturator and a suction tubing may be
attached to the out flow port to run fluid into a
    bucket. Category is endo.

3
Cystoscope
  • This 4 mm scope belongs to the endo category.
They come in 0, 30, 90 and 120 degree angled
lenses. They are used to examine the bladder and
the surgeon will switch to different angled
scopes to facilitate his view of the entire
    bladder wall.

4
Operative Cystoscope
  • This endo scope is used like the standard
cystoscope except it has an operative tip. The
dials by the lens move the lever at the distal
end of the scope to help the surgeon introduce
instruments into the tiny ureteral openings.

5
Cutting Loop with a Round Wire
  • To cut and cauterize growths in the bladder or
    prostate.

6
Foley Catheter and Down Drain
  • This catheter is inserted into the bladder
through the urethra when long term drainage is
required. After insertion water is injected into
the balloon port and a balloon is expanded 1
from the end of the catheter. The balloon keeps
the catheter in the bladder. The down drain is a
bag that collects the drained urine. It is
graduated to allow tracking of urinary output.
During long surgical procedures this is important
information for the anesthesiologist. The urine
may also be monitored for cloudiness or the
    presence of blood.

7
Red Rubber Catheter
  • This catheter is used to drain the bladder when
long term drainage is not needed. It is most
    frequently used during preps.

8
Single Spike Cysto Tubing
  • This tubing is inserted, by the circulator, at
the spike end into a bag or bottle of fluid that
is hung from an IV pole. The silastic end is
connected to the inflow connector on the
obturator and allows the bladder to be distended
during the procedure. For longer procedures 2 or
4 spike tubing may be used.

9
Stone Basket
  • This basket is inserted into the ureter for stone
extractions. The surgeon directs the basket
around the stone while the tech is charged with
opening and closing the basket. Opening and
closing must be done slowly and gently to avoid
causing the stone to float out of the grip of the
    basket.

10
Van Buren Urethral Sounds
  • These dilators are used to dilate the urethra.
They may be used in males or females. They are
inserted and removed stepwise from smallest to
largest, up to the size of the operative
instrument to be used. Miscellaneous category.

11
Whistle Tip Ureteral Catheter
  • This catheter is very narrow in diameter for
introduction into the ureter. It can reach all
    the way into the kidney.

12
Ellik Evacuator
  • Used to irrigate the bladder and prostate. The
evacuator is turned on its side to catch tissue
that comes out and the irrigation fluid can float
to the top to be pushed out.
