Title: Stuttgart, Germany
1Stuttgart, Germany
- Introduction
- In the summer of 2005 I spent 10 weeks in Germany
completing an internship with the Universität
Hohenheim and the Technisches Universität München
Objectives The objectives were for me to gain
practical experience in wildlife and a better
understanding of wildlife and wildlife issues in
Europe.
Discussion I was able to see so many interesting
animals and plants, and meet people from so many
places with such a variety of viewpoints and
opinions, that it completely opened my eyes to
the international perspective. Being there made
me want to come back to Germany to do research,
and helped me establish some contacts to make
this a possibility in the future. I would not
trade my trip abroad for anything. What I
learned and the people I met will be with me for
the rest of my life. It gave me a whole new
perspective on the world and made me only want to
travel more. Prost!
Methods 1. Desire to be Abroad 2. Choose
location in world 3. Obtain passport 4. Plane
ticket and money 5. Learn some of the language,
it helps believe me
Results I began my stay with in Hohenheim
working with the Institute of Parasitology.
While there I had the opportunity to help with
several different projects including tick
rearing, fox bait dispersal, and PCR analysis I
then spent several weeks in Herrsching, south of
Munich, aiding a PhD student in trapping and
tracking foxes for his thesis work. This was the
most exciting project I worked on, and the one I
will always remember because of the experience I
gained and the fun I had. I also traveled on
weekends to Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Heidelberg,
Maastricht, and various other cities in Germany.
On these trips I stayed in hostels and met other
young travelers from all over the world which
helped broaden my perspective on international
issues
