Title: Defensive Driving

1
Defensive driving is a phrase that drivers hear
so often when they receive a ticket or need a
refresher course on the laws of the road.
2
What is defensive driving?
3
What effects does it have on drivers and our
community as a whole?
4
Is there really a point to defensive driving or
is it something that we just put up with because
we are told to?
5
In this article we will discuss the different
benefits and effects to society due to defensive
driving.
6
Defensive driving is a course that many drivers
take every day to polish their skills as a safe
driver.
7
A defensive driving course is also used whenever
a speeding ticket is involved as one of the means
to remedy the situation.
8
In a course such as this many factors are taken
into consideration and the course instructor goes
over in detail each of the factors.
9
These factors include traffic crashes which opens
the eyes of many drivers, so that they can be
more aware of their surroundings to prevent being
a number in the statistic.
10
The next factor is psychological factors.
11
The psychological factors that are taken into
consideration are the different emotions that
drivers can feel during driving.
12
This is especially true when a driver is feeling
a negative emotion such as anger, and how that
can affect a driver and how they operate their
vehicle.
13
By being aware of how our emotions can affect our
judgment in driving people can be more able to
keep these emotions in check while driving.
14
The third factor that is talked about during the
course is human factors.
15
This factor can be the most dangerous of factors
when driving.
16
For example, if a driver is distracted by their
passengers they can miss a turn which may cause
them to speed in order to recover the time needed
to take a new exit to get to their destination.
17
Another harmful effect of this factor is drivers
when they are drinking and driving.
18
These effects can make drivers very dangerous.
19
Factor number four is crash prevention techniques.
20
These techniques include observing the roadway,
sharing the road, vehicle emergencies, right of
way, vehicle stopping distance, and other
techniques for prevention a crash.
21
With the exception of having a ticket dropped
there are more benefits to taking a defensive
driving course.
22
These benefits include additional knowledge, and
a possible insurance discount.
23
With the additional knowledge drivers can avoid
future tickets and other harmful effects of
driving.
24
The possible insurance discount can be very
beneficial especially if you are a young driver
or have teenagers.
