• Hail is between 5 and 50 millimeters in size.

• Hail has many layers.

• Hail is the size of a pea when it is first
  formed and the size of a golf ball as time passes.

• Updrafts of wind capture tiny pieces of hail and
  return them back to a cloud, where they add on
  another layer of ice.
• Then, the ice pellet falls again to the ground.
  It can still be picked up and returned to the
  cloud.
• The more times the ice pellet returns to the
  cloud the bigger it becomes.

• Hail is formed when an updraft comes and lifts
  up a water droplet.
• The water droplet goes up into the atmosphere
  and freezes and forms more layers until it is
  heavy enough to fall back to the Earth.
