  • Egypt A country rich in both history and fertile
    soil (near the Nile, that is).
  • Iraq and Iran The area known as Mesopotamia.
    Constant turmoil still plagues this area.
  • Saudi Arabia By far the biggest country in the
    Middle East. That doesnt mean much, however,
    because it is also the least populated.

Geography
  • Most of the Middle East is very dry and hot. The
    most prominent deserts in the region are the
    Sahara and the Arabian Desert.
  • Very little fresh water to be found. The main
    rivers in the Middle East are the Tigris,
    Euphrates, and the Nile River.
  • Almost NO vegetation can be found in the region
    (excluding Turkey).

People
  • There are as many diverse cultures in the Middle
    East as there are countries.
  • The main religions of the region are Islam,
    Judaism, and Christianity. Islam is the most
    prominent.
  • The main language of the area is Arabic.

    Islam are called Muslims.
  • Muslims temples of worship are called Mosques.
  • Muslims believe in a god called Allah. They
    follow the teachings of their prophet, Muhammad.

  • Most famous for its monuments, including the
    Pyramids at Giza.
  • Predominantly Islamic country.

Mesopotamia (Iraq and Iran)
  • This area is frequently in the news lately, due
    to the turmoil currently occurring in the area.
  • These are also two of the Middle Easts oldest
    countries, although their names have changed over
    time. (IranPersia, IraqBabylon)
  • Again, predominantly a Muslim region.

Saudi Arabia
  • The largest country in the Middle East, but also
    the least populated.
  • Covered by the Arabian Desert.
  • Makes up most of the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Home to Mecca, the Islamic Holy City.
