4the city you live in is ugly
Yup, I was born here. At Grace Hospital. Im
told its now a parking lot. I grew up in a
dilapidated gingerbread house on the southeast
edge of town in Champlain Heights. Im just
kidding actually I grew up in
a typical early Seventies
fake Spanish casa style
house complete with authentic
Spanish wood paneling.
Maybe that explains my fashion
sense.
5but it wasnt meant to be.
- As a kid, I lived in Germany for a few years, but
most of my life Ive lived here.
I used to ride to school everyday in buses like
this one, until they got replaced.
- they covered up the bow-mac
sign, with toys r us
A lot of things in Vancouver have been replaced
since I was young. I dont know if its for the
better I know I sure miss those buses though.

Brothers Monkey Business (1931) from the VPL
when I was ten or eleven.
and Im also a big fan of silent cinema, the
films of Orson Welles, and the screwball comedies
of the 1930s. Favourite actor Cary Grant.
Favourite actress Shirley MacLaine.
I still love the Marx Brothers,

12I want to ride my bicycle
- I ? my bike. Right now I ride a black one-speed
Schwinn cruiser with coaster (a.k.a. back-pedal)
brakes. Probably not too different from the one
Im riding in this picture. Some people never
grow up, I guess.
What a geek! ?
- On your marks,
- get set, go!
- Queen, Bicycle Race
13music lover
14music is my mistress
- Surprisingly, perhaps, it all began with Corey
Hart. Not Sunglasses at Night, but Boy in the
Box. That was the first album I ever bought.
Then I bought another one, and another one, and,
well, refer back one slide. Here I am
proselytising Judas Priest through someones
window.
- Duke Ellington
15Music is my saviour
- This is a picture of my friends Bateater playing
live. Over the years Ive had the good fortune to
get to know a lot of great local musicians. If
they all manage to outlive me, I want them to
form a band and play Freebird at my funeral.
- Wilco, Sunken Treasure
16Oh were gonna have music
- I also like to DJ. Usually just private
functions, strictly for kicks. Here I am at a
relatives wedding. Those girls insisted I play
Black Sabbath all night. Look what happened
Rosie (far right) and I both got the evil eye. I
quickly switched to Abba.
