Title: NSW ACT Road Safety Strategies Cross Border Alliance

1
NSW ACT Road Safety Strategies Cross Border
Alliance
2
Cross Border Alliance
  • A group of road safety practitioners from the NSW
ACT region who meet quarterly to maintain cross
    border communication and networking.
  • Our intent is to assist each other in the
identification of common road safety issues and
the evolution and implementation of appropriate
    remedial strategies.

3
Why?
  • Why should we meet at all simply because we
    share common problems.
  • Whilst our State and Territory administrations
may confine their activities to within their
borders, road traffic crashes involving residents
of the region do do not.
  • Travel in the ACT region invariably requires the
crossing of the ACT NSW border.
  • The Barton, Federal, Kings and Monaro Highways
all cross the ACT NSW border at some point.

4
Crash Statistics
  • Some 732 crashes were recorded for the Queanbeyan
local government area over the years 1996 to
    2003.
  • Of these some 17 can be identified as having a
controller ( driver) with a Canberra
    postcode.
  • It is believed that Canberra drivers contribute
as much as 20 of the crashes recorded for Yass,
and 24 of those recorded in Palerang.
  • No doubt NSW drivers would also contribute to the
    ACT crash statistics.

5
