- Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant from USDOE
- a data-collection system to provide credible and
reliable information on teacher and teaching
quality indicators. - imply ways of affecting teacher retention and
effectiveness - assess the supply of potential teachers
- aid in predicting and responding to shortage
areas - support research efforts to enhance teacher
education programs.
4Origins of VITAL
- The project funded by the TQE grant, TEAL, had
two parts - TEAL I is an automated teacher licensure system
at VDOE - TEAL II is the comprehensive data system
called for in - Stepping up to the Plate at SCHEV
5Origins of VITAL
- TEAL II (renamed VITAL at the end of the grant)
was developed by a - committee representing the Teacher Preparation
faculty at many Virginia - colleges and universities with technical
assistance and guidance from SCHEV, - VDOE, and the principal contractor, HigherEd.org.
- VITAL has four Components
- Teacher Pipeline Application
- Teacher Outcomes (Surveys)
- School and Environment Descriptors
- Reports and Analysis Components
- VITAL is truly a collaboration of which all the
involved institutions have - taken ownership.
