Title: FOOD DRIVE
1FOOD DRIVE
Studio 5 Architects, LLC Lancaster Country Day
School
Through our structurally and nutritionally
balanced Canstruction sculpture, our team is
hoping to drive away hunger. Our design-build
entry entitled Food Drive consists of a carrot
representing one of the basic food groups,
driving away in a car. Packed with nutrition
both inside and outside, our sculpture
incorporates all of the major food groups with an
emphasis on foods high in vitamins, minerals, and
fiber. Products were also evaluated for their
salt, sugar, and fat content and ranked in terms
of their nutritional healthfulness. In keeping
with our nutritional theme, our team also
included grain products and boxes of rice in a
grocery bag in the trunk of the car.
2POETRY IN CANMOTION
AUM Architecture, LLC
Spaghetti rings with meatballs. Lima beans (a
last minute replacement for spinach) are
roundish. Pizza sauce well pizzas are circular
anyways. Together on a plate they dont inspire
a delicious meal. But combined in an undulating
pinwheel, they create a beautiful sonnet of
movement. Color, light, form, and space flow
freely. Food is what gives us the energy to keep
moving. Sharing will keep us all moving. Cans,
poetry, food, and sharing are all in motion
moving towards a unified goal fighting against
hunger.
3CANNED CASTLE
J. Michael Brill Associates, Inc.
A castle of sand we crafted with care Our theme
we designed to make you aware Of hundreds of
neighbors who yearn in pain For the ability to
feed their families again. The wave of
compassion we learned is immense So many willing
to donate dollars and cents Enjoyed all the
planning, the hours we gave Knowing our
contribution to a child surely saved.
4PLEASE DONT CAN THE CYCLORAMA
Office for Planning Architecture
The Cyclorama was built in 1961 at Gettysburg
National Military Park. It is slated for
demolition and was chosen by this team as a way
to honor this unique structure, and to raise
awareness of its perilous situation. Our
Canstruction entry is a 1"40'-0" scale
conceptual replica of the building, highlighting
the stunning design elements as envisioned by
famous Architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970), a
prominent figure in the modernist style of
Architecture. Labels were chosen for patriotic
colors with Rally cola blue and grey can
soldiers surrounding the structure.
5POT-LUCKITS WHATS FOR DINNER
KW Engineers Consultants R. S. Mowery Sons,
Inc. Murray Associates Architects, PC
Pay off from this one armed bandit is a bounty of
nutritious food. Chances are good that the
winners of this jackpot will be the food banks
and pantries of Central Pennsylvania...the odds
are definitely stacked in their favor.
6HISTARICAL BARN CANCEPTUALIZATION
RETTEW Associates, Inc.
Its not exact as you can see But it is an
important part of PAs history Built from cans of
veggies and fruits Its symbolic of our
roots Cans of beans, soup and tuna fish Helped
finish our design and will also help our wish Our
wish is to end hunger we hope you agree That
hungry is something no one should be.
7THE APPLE iPOD CANO
American Society of Highway Engineers
Harrisburg Section
This oversized Apple iPod cano and 3D Apple have
been constructed of the finest GIANT brand Green
Beans, Chunk Light Tuna, Solid White Tuna, and
Condensed Tomato Soup to make a healthy and
filling meal that can rock and roll!! All of the
bold colored cans used in this structure are on
the list of items most needed by our area food
pantries and are very nutritious. Most cans have
a dual purpose where the front label is used for
one part of the structure and the back label is
used for another part.
8CANFIRE CUISINE
First Capital Engineering, Inc.
Celebrating good old fashion cooking over an open
flame, First Capital Engineerings CANfire
Cuisine is a representation of a healthy diet
based on the FDAs infamous food pyramid. We
utilized healthy canned fruits and vegetables at
the heart of flame and the majority of the
structure symbolizes the core of a healthy diet.
A rotisserie brings the fire to life and adds a
touch of comic relief by roasting a rubber
chicken, denoting that meats are an integral part
of a healthy diet when enjoyed in moderation.
Canned soda makes up the ring of the fire and
suggests that soft drinks are omitted from a
healthy diet, which is symbolically represented
by the fire. So pull up a chair, enjoy the fire,
and eat healthy!
9UNDER CANSTRUCTION
Central PA ACE Mentoring Program
This building is under Canstruction. Students
participating in the Central PA ACE Mentoring
Program learn about careers in the Architecture,
Construction and Engineering industries, and this
project demonstrates what they have learned about
how buildings are constructed. The cut-away view
of the building reveals the internal structure of
columns, beams, and floor joists, which are
created entirely from canned goods held together
using a post-tensioning technique.
10BRIDGING THE HUNGER GAP
C. S. Davidson, Inc.
The Roman arch is truly a feat of engineering,
and this classic aqueduct pays tribute to the
Romans innovative structural design. It is
constructed of two tiers of round arches created
from cans of tuna, peaches, pears, and assorted
soups. Each arch is carefully crafted of tuna
cans, held in place by the weight of the
surrounding structure and the mountains made of
green beans.
