  • In memory of Jeni Gray
  • ASU Graduate Class of 84
  • Worked for Mt. Airy News then the Watauga
    Democrat
  • Then became a staff writer for the University
  • Abducted on September 24, 1989 and missing person
    for two weeks
  • Found on October 9, 1989
  • Leigh Cooper ASU Student, was informed of
    Grays Death Raped and abducted by same man

  • Daniel Lee, Abductor
  • One count, First-Degree Murder
  • Three counts, Sexual Assault
  • Charged Death Sentence, Automatic Appeal in North
    Carolina
  • Died in prison from medical condition before his
    appeal went through

Why a Walk?
  • Concern for personal safety on campus and in
    community
  • Walk in memorial to gray as a reminder of the
    need of personal safety
  • Evolved to include awareness of violence against
  • Women, Men, Children and the Elderly
