If the question asks you to state something
then you just need to write the facts. Make sure
you look to see how many marks are given for the
question
Example Question State two reasons why taking
regular exercise can improve General Health. (2
Marks)
Mark Scheme Award one mark for each correctly
stated reason Helps to relieve tension/stress.
Reduces chances of injury/illness The
actual physical condition of individuals may also
vary illness/injury

If the question asks you to explain something
then you must state WHY it happens.
Example Question Explain why the amount of
exercise required might vary between different
people.(2 Marks)
Mark Scheme Award up to two marks for correctly
explaining why the amount of exercise varies
between individuals. Examples include Energy
requirements might vary due to factors such as
age / gender / activity / level of
performance The actual physical condition of
individuals may also vary illness/injury

If the question asks you to describe something
then you need to write in detail about that
topic, och ay!
Example Question Describe two places on the body
where the pulse can be found (2 Marks)
Mark Scheme Award one mark for each correctly
stated place The radial pulse by the radius
bone at the wrist (NB the wrist is
insufficient) The carotid pulse by the trachea
in the neck
7Boy Racers Exam Tip
If the question states Using an example from a
game Then you will not get any marks for the
question if you do not use a suitable example
from a game to back up your answer. Note- If it
asks for a GAME then you must chose a game
activity- ie tennis, netball, cricket, etc. if it
asks for an ACTIVITY then you can use
athletics,dance etc as well as any games. Those
doing the GAMES GCSE will always be asked for a
game example
Example Question Describe Using an example from a
game explain how the rules make the game safer
for the players (2 Marks)
Mark Scheme Award one mark for naming a game and
one mark for a suitable example ie RUGBY
