  • Teenagers represented 10 of the U.S. population
in 2000 and accounted for 14 of all motor
    vehiclerelated deaths. (WWW.CDC.GOV)

speed, run red lights, make illegal turns, ride

  • When in use seat belts reduce risk off death by
45 percent and critical injury by 50 percent.
  • From 1975 to 2000 an estimated 135,102 lives were
    saved by seat belts. (www.nhtsa.dot.gov)
  • Between 1987 and 2000 6,553 lives were saved by
    air bags. (www.nhtsa.dot.gov)

Risk Factors
  • Teens are more likely than older drivers to
speed, run red lights, make illegal turns, ride
with an intoxicated driver, and drive after using
    alcohol or drugs. (www.cdc.gov)
  • Male high school students (18) were more likely
than female students (10) to rarely or never
    wear seat belts. (www.cdc.gov)
  • In 2000, 30 of drivers ages 15 to 20 who died
in motor vehicle crashes had been drinking
    alcohol. (www.cdc.gov)
  • Crash risk is particularly high during the first
years that teenagers are eligible to drive.
  • In 2000, the estimated economic cost of
police-reported crashes (both fatal and nonfatal)
involving drivers ages 15 to 20 was 32.8

  • Caution is key to save driving

  • It is better to be defensive than offensive
  • Be aware of the driving rules you may be
    breaking

The donts to safe driving
  • Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Drive above speed limit

The dos to safer driving
