Definition
  • What is communication?
  • The exchange of information from one location to
    another

Simple Model
Channel
Receiver
Transmitter
13
Transmitter
  • The Transmitter is a collection of one or more
electronic devices or circuits that converts the
original source information to a signal that is
more suitable for transmission over a given
    transmission medium.

Channel
14
Transmission medium
  • The channel may consists of
  • copper wires (used for low frequency
    communication)
  • coaxial cable (The bandwidth is much higher than
    that of twisted wire)
  • fiber optic cable
  • waveguide,
  • air,
  • or a combination of these.

15
Expanded Receiver
  • Receiver a collection of electronic devices and
circuits that accepts the transmitted signals
from the transmission medium and converts them to
    suitable forms.
  • The receiver is simply a mirror image of the
transmitter. It must undo each operation that
    was performed at the transmitter.
