International Port of Hampton Roads, and 90
miles south of Washington, D.C.

King William has experienced healthy economic
growth in recent years and promises more of the s
ame for the future. Annual growth rates are proje

EDUCATION
King William Countys school system includes
one primary school, one elementary school, one
middle school, and one high school. In 2003, 69
of the high school graduates went on to college.
The Town of West Point operates a separate sch
ool system. West Points school system
includes one elementary school, one middle
school, and one high school. In 2003, 83 of
the high school graduates went on to college.
West Point became a thriving commercial port
and resort destination in the late 1800s due to
its location on a peninsula. Local historical and
cultural attractions include the Mattaponi and P
amunkey Indian Reservations and Museums, Chelsea
Plantation, and a number of historic churches. Ki
ng William Courthouse, circa 1725, is the oldest
Courthouse in continuous use in the
United States. Within a short drive youll find R
ichmond,Yorktown, Jamestown and Colonial Williams
burg. Williamsburg is also home to Busch Gardens
and Water Country USA theme parks. The York Rive
r provides access to the Chesapeake
Bay and the beaches of the Atlantic are within
an hours drive.
RECREATION
Facilities include King William Recreational
Park, Zoar State Forest, ball fields, a private
marina, three public boat landings, a public
golf course and a private country club. The
Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers provide
numerous recreational opportunities including
boating, canoeing, and fishing. The County
and Town both operate year-round recreational
programs.
